Heard we are giving miller a firm offer sometime in the next 24 hours, and if he doesn't take it, good luck. They aren't going to compromise not being able to get the big time guy/guys that they want to add.

Careful what you wish for because word on the street is that Sister Jean puts up a lot of prayers.I believe someone made the point that rooting for Miller would be more enjoyable than rooting for last year's team, even if they weren't a better team. Hard to argue with reasoned arguments like that one!
Personally, if we aren't really trying to win, I would like to root for Sister Jean to run the point, I hope she has some eligibility left.
Where is Tony Khan and that AEW money? There are 15ish programs at 10 mil + right now and we are not one of them...yet
No, it's not relevant. In fact, if you look at his game logs, the games where ASU got blown out were probably his worst games. In games where they won or were competitive, he was often a big factor in that. And you don't think it's relevant that most of these conference games were blowout losses? Cue the Chris Paul big 3 meme.
I suspect many of those were guys who were "encouraged" to enter the portal, since no one gets cut...Here's an interesting number from last year's Division 1 transfer portal. 2035 players entered the transfer portal last year. 1595 of them eventually found a new home. That means 440 players transferred themselves right out of college basketball because no one wanted them.
The numbers are even worse in Division 2. Only 395 of the 1020 players who entered the transfer portal found new homes last year.
For some, the transfer portal is not all it's cracked up to be.
Just don't forget that some who are quite good players are busily testing the NBA route and those teams that are in a hurry to fill their slots may actually be settling for the so-so players when the true stars are filling in later. The 80-20 rule is premised upon a fully stocked market if I am not mistaken. This market keeps refilling the shelves over time. It is also the case that GA is still massaging Europe and those players are not on a particular portal schedule. Just isn't as clean as what your analysis calls for.Quality over quantity (this is almost an exact representation of the 80/20 rule by the way). It's more likely the better players find their spots sooner rather than later, obviously doesn't apply to everyone, but that's the general rule. This already won't be true thanks to Zvonimir, but I'd hate to be the team that filled all of its transfer spots after the other top programs.
If we don't get Sarr id take Storr. If we do get sarr I'd take Miller. We need an athletic cutter that can finish and get to the line and make the FTs. Boz is good but Sarr or Storr are very good at that. Miller is ok at that but a better shooter than Storr. I do like the idea of wings like Sarr, Boz, Ty and Miller on D. I like that alotSounds like Memphis & Ole Miss are the most involved with AJ Storr but we’ve kicked the tires …
FWIW - Price is about the same for him and Adam Miller …

When was the last time you heard of a kid getting suspended for academics? The schools have all gotten around this academic issue with a shocking success rate somehow...Google AI tells me that the NCAA transfer rules generally require student-athletes to complete their current academic semester at their original school before transferring. That must be really awkward for some kids (especially the bridge-burning types).
Generally speaking, donors don’t give to athletic programs for a ROI. They give for access to the program and to feel like they’re a part of it. And while they may not be particularly happy about being asked to give more money, they’ll do so because they can afford it and the need to have their ego fed is strong.Eventually there will be a breaking point, and the more stories that come out like what is happening to Tennessee football, the closer I think we are getting to that breaking point. Eventually the money is going to run dry, everywhere. I don't mean in terms of having it, or willing to spend it, but in terms of wanting something in return that is even remotely close to the investment...
One million for Ace Wolf, to not raise that chance of winning anything or a ROI for the personal investor?? Insane. I realize schools get more money for each round they advance in the tournament, but that money isn't going back to boosters. The schools and their programs are keeping that money.
We need contracts, with buyouts. You want to poach our starting center, Michigan? That's fine, pay us that 1.5 million buyout on his contract, and we will use that money and flip it around for someone else. There needs to be something changed, because this is so very broken, and eventually the rich are going to get sick of wasting money on a 1.47% chance to win a National Championship...
We already have eight guys rostered. Yeah it would suck not to get our transfer targets, but it's not like Wagler and Lee are unrated schmucks. They're both 4* top 150 guys, and I expect them to get good minutes at times this season. All things considered I think it's good news that they wouldn't be settling and are hoping to get a big time scorer.
I would've been disappointed if the 8 man rotation was rounded out with Sarr, Miller, and Humrichous(i would have no issue with Ben being the ninth guy).
Personally, with the current roster construction id rather splurge on two big targets and go value bargain bin/value shopping for a depth guy than spend on someone like Miller and not have enough to get a true difference maker.
I think the current roster has a ton of guys that can play roles but is missing that guy that elevates the team from a top 25ish one to a true contender.
Agree to an extent, but we are not talking normal donation monetary values for these NIL dealsGenerally speaking, donors don’t give to athletic programs for a ROI. Damn. Wilkerson is a very good scorer. Was hoping he'd stay out of the Big Ten. Especially not going to Michigan or Indiana.wilkerson to indy. hopefully takes them out of the miller race
What's happened here is attrition. Teams are being left completely vacant of talent (like Baylor) and now that creates an urgency to fill out a roster. Teams are more willing to overpay, especially for high-end talent, because there will only be so much of it. The value of all players rises as a result. "THis guy got 1.5M? Well I score more than he does so I should get the same!" This is why this whole system is unsustainable. There is money out there for these players, but that money isn't going to be there forever. Not to mention sometimes you hit up donors to update your facilities, and now those donors are almost directly paying these guys. It's not some infinite money tree. Something is going to bottleneck eventually and donors are going to say no, especially if the team they're paying doesn't win. Then what happens?Maybe this is recency bias with some of the misses of late, but it does seem like some of the top tier transfers become too expensive for Illinois' taste the minute they entered the portal. Why does it seem like Illinois is the only school that realize the system that is an absolute !!!! show, is not worth it. The fact that 15 teams may have a 10 million dollar roster for a 1/68 chance to win a championship?? (that's not even a guaranteed 1/68 to some schools, but I imagine for these 15 they should make the field with ease)

I think this is mostly the correct analysis. I think if we get Sarr he might end up better than KJ, who at times hurt the team in spite of how good he was. But unless he is much much better I have hard time believing next years team will be significantly better. And as KJ struggled down the stretch, WIll Riley played really great down the stretch.Hypothetical comparison, but last year’s lineup to this year’s most mocked lineup going off likely production:
Year 1 Bos < Year 2 Bos
KJ > Sarr
Will > Ace
Humrichous/Morez/White = Mirkovic
Year 1 Tomi < Year 2 Tomi
Likely we’re getting worse at 2 spots (KJ and Will > Sarr and Ace), better at 2 due to assuming Bos and Tomi will be better in year 2, and likely similar production at the 4. The only thing really better about this team is the bench. If last year’s team wasn’t, I don’t see that being top 25 or a sweet 16 team
