Tbh I’m still riding high off two ivisic’s… two ivisic’s that could very well be 2 of the top 5 7-foot shooters in D-1… who needs a 3-point specialist or a slashing guard when you’ve got a set of ivisic’s… (/s…?)

The sky is falling crowd out in full force again tonight.
It will be so bizarre if Underwood is eventually fired because he did not have enough NIL money to compete. Is that the future?
I don’t see how we can judge programs and coaches anymore . Happy for the players but not sure why fans will want to follow this.

The tournament will remain popular but think regular season will be adversely impacted.

I mean, almost the same exact script was fed to us last year and it didn’t end up great.

Would it be legal for NIL deals to be team performance based? I imagine you could milk some more out of boosters if that were the case. I ask this as a practicing attorney, shamefully. Though I assume if it came before a judge, they'd just make it up and then back fill the logic as to why it was legal or not legal.

Last year was a better year than most coaches could pull off after losing 98% of scoring or whatever the number was. I trust Brad is smart enough to not go after some of the names being mentioned here.
Let's see how Baylor fares next season in comparison...

I think Brad has plenty of NIL to compete. Painter seems to be doing fine at Purdue. Did Florida spend more on this years team than the Illini did on theirs? Or Houston?

I'm actually pretty interested to see how this years portal season ends up turning out. I haven't seen a team that I think has had a truly great portal and created a superteam so it's not like the blue bloods are going to be unbeatable.

Even BYU still looks pretty beatable despite dropping some bags.

Obviously the revenue sharing thing and other NCAA stuff could change things but it seems like enough schools are spending big right now that a lot of talent is spreading out throughout the power conferences instead of seeing all the top guys go to a few schools.

Are we in Sarr or bust territory yet?

I know I'll get flack for this, but if I'm going off vibes I think we end up with an average squad for next year. I just don't have the faith in this staff that I do in the football side of the house.
Underwood has had far more recruiting and on the court success than the football side. We had a great incoming class last year, we just had a run of bad luck with injuries and strange illnesses. I mean, when is the last time you heard of a major player getting mono and being out for weeks?

What Painter does is amazing. And Florida, winning a NC with no top 100 players (at least according to the "experts") might be even more amazing. That said, I'd prefer to add a few blue chip recruits.

Purdue and Marquette zigged when everbody else zagged on portal.

They were able to retain most of their players and add limited portal players.

Purdue was 4th in B10 13-7 vs Illini 7th 12-8. Purdue was 4 seed beating High Point and McNeese State before falling to Houston. Illini win one more conference game might have achieved same.

Marquette was 23-11 7 seed. Lost 1st round to New Mexico.

Brad had to replace everyone but DGL and did as well as Purdue and Marquette who kept most their core although Edey was a mega loss;

A majority of us have been watching the Illini since long before the "resurgence" in 2020. If a win and done in the NCAAT is a bad year...I'll take it! If bad year becomes plural...then we'd all have problems with it.

Bielema is building a much more solid foundation on the football side than what Underwood has done on the hoops side. Yes, Underwood has had more success, but the tides they are changin. Look at last year and what is being forecast for the coming year between the two programs. I'd put Bielema's Citrus Bowl win at least at par with Underwood's Elite 8 (then blowout loss to UConn).

Look at the coaches Bielema has brought in top-to-bottom compared with Underwood, who now has 2 top AC's but after that it sub-standard.

Beilema is holding on to his key players and actually has some stay at IL versus going pro. This gives IL Football continuity and culture.

Underwood has to do a major overhaul every season due to significant attrition. Hoops has little continuity, Underwood has to attempt to re-instill culture every year and has coaches who do not know how to do that (excluding OA & Alexander). EDG is lacking at the moment.

I put all of the blame on Hamer. There would be more mentioned, but I wouldn't want to get his leggings in a bunch.

Are you insane? You'd put a win, in a nice, yet meaningless bowl game on par getting to a regional final and a shot at the final.four?

How many Big Ten Championships(Tournament and Regular Season) has Underwood won?

We had a great year last year in football. No doubt. That said, if this football season comes and goes and we have a 7-5 record....it'll be disappointing, but still a nice year.

In the Big Ten, over the last six years, in basketball, it's been Purdue and Illinois at the top of the heap for wins. Painter and Brad.

In football, we will never sniff the jock of Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Oregon, etc on an annual basis. A one off win.....sure.

We have a streak of exactly one postseason game and one postseason win in football.

The board was about to melt down with a loss to Kentucky in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.....a tournament that we've made how many years straight?

Football upside has a LOOOOOONG way to go to be in the same stratosphere as our basketball program.

Florida...Clayton should have been top 100

LOL at foundation of what. I've said this before but Bielema hasn't done anything close to Brad so far. One 10 win season beating up on bottom feeders doesn't make anything. If he follows it up with a playoff appearance and continues to build then maybe but he's not there yet. Need more results.
