feel like sarr keeps slipping.

taking way to long to close the deal, even if they do close the deal its a big "overpay". its gone up 1mil since last month it feels like
Sucks we didn't close sooner. The ones we chase initially seem to go elsewhere. Back to Europe for another hidden gem.

He’s smart to old out cause the less talent left in the portal, the more his price goes up.
However, there are less buyers then too. Once teams spend their budget, many will get out. He is likely sought after enough that someone can go ask for more from the boosters, but not everyone will be that fortunate.

Also, he really big payday comes from the NBA. Where will he have the best chance to shine?

yup... agent keeps driving the price. new suitors desperate with money to spend will get involved which keeps uping up the price. its already at 2.5 mil... with a month left to go for him to decide it will go up to 3.

I think sarr is good but for that much? that number is higher then KJ and will combined

Those numbers are ridiculous for someone that hasn't played a single ncaa college basketball game. I'd rather have 3 proven dudes that want 1 million and are looking to compete than an unknown player. If illinois pays Sarr 3 mil and he gets hurt, the season would be in total turmoil. Also, there are plenty of players available that can get you the same numbers Sarr would give you for a lot cheaper. Find guys willing to be reasonable and looking to win first and cash out second.

Other boards are saying Sarr is committing to a college in the coming days, and it is not going to be Illinois (Oregon, USC, or Miami).

This would be one that even the most positive of us will have a tough time spinning. We have been putting work into this for months.... we have the connection to his agent, and the connection with KJ, and the groundwork. All for him to potentially swing to another Big Ten school last minute?

What the hell is our staff doing right now? I think that is a fair question.

If we lose out on Sarr, and don't add a true top-level portal player, I have serious questions about our stated NIL. I trust our insiders on this stuff, but man, it's getting hard for me to fathom we're actually in that top 15 NIL range.

2 teams who have no viable alternatives is a much better negotiating point for a player than a bunch of teams and an unknowable number of alternatives, due to players who may yet enter the portal and players who may return from the draft. This is to say that if you're as good as Sarr has been made out to be, and your primary motivation is getting the best NIL deal, you are probably better off waiting until the hypothetical portal entrants no longer exist, even if it means some teams bow out.

I will say if we do miss out on Sarr, if he is/was our big splash alpha wing, I understand he’s really good, but we also just saw the ups and downs a team can have when its fortunes are hitched to an 18/19 year old. Rutgers had 2 lottery picks and didn’t even make the tournament. If we are dropping our biggest bag on a player that will be a one year rental anyways, I would rather have someone more experienced.

And maybe that’s copium because obviously staff spent a lot of time and resources on Sarr, but hard to go far in March if you are leaning too heavily on frosh.

Coleman Hawkins got a lot of hate through his years, especially on social media, but at least he was pretty well-equipped to handle it. Considering how KSU fans treated him, we treated him like a king. On this board and on Twitter, BH has been a whipping boy for everything that was wrong with our team. I've criticized him too, but privately, never on social media. I felt really sorry for the guy late in the year, he was brutally attacked on Twitter, and even mentioned in one interview that he knew he wasn't well-liked. I'm sure that didn't help his confidence. Anyway, as long as he's our 8th or 9th man, I would like to bring him back. As many have said, I believe he will be better next year.

I think there’s a strong chance we wind up with neither …

Exactly

Sarr went from being recruited by, basically, Illinois, to being recruited by an endless list of name brand schools after turning heads with his play with Barcelona A team

He also sees Will testing the waters, but if he were to withdraw and come back... that's probably 12-15 field goal attempts per game back in the mix/rotation

Finally, inflation in this cycle has been insane and continues to grow... if he started around $1.5M he could demand $4M if the trend continues (and why wouldn't it?)

We may need to jump off the Sarr train at some point, because he is becoming less and less likely every day that passes

The thing with Sarr is that after it went public that we were locked in with him in late Feb/early March, a rash of injuries thrust Sarr into a prominent role on the Barcelona senior team for the first time and he played fantastic. He went from a comparable prospect with KJ last year to a different sort of level in terms of how proven he was.

It's true that bidding wars will keep escalating if you don't lock guys down, but the underlying substance of the Dame Sarr situation has really dramatically changed since we first heard his name. There's no world in which a deal we made in February would have stuck.

They were 18-19 year olds carrying big offensive loads for us and we'd have been nowhere without them, but it's kind of surprising how little blame KJ and especially Riley are getting for our defensive frailties last year.

Ty for Riley on the defensive end of the floor is a total sea change. Z brings an element we totally lacked. The whole team is older. We ought to improve on that end.
THIS!!! KJ was an atrocious defender.

Riley, was…….. ok.

Is Sarr leaning towards going pro? I hope your wrong. We really need an athletic long wing that can cut, finish through contact, run the floor, and get to the line. Being a solid shooter would be nice too.

Who are some guys in the draft that may withdraw and be available? Also, you had mention PJ Haggerty and another kid from Montenegro. Any word on those guys? If Miller is ok but one of those two would be nice I'd think.
