I find it weird that you seem happy about this! LOL? Really? You're laughing because we're no in Dame Sarr's top 4, okay, I see who you are.

I get that it's difficult to lose a recruiting battle for a top level player, but let's not overdose on the copium.

Dame Sarr is a starting caliber player on one of the best Euroleague teams. He has proven himself against against top level European grown-@$$ men players. Yes, it sucks that it won't be us, but Dame Sarr will be worth every single penny he gets from whatever college team gets him.
I like Sarr a lot but its asking a lot for any 18 year old kid to come in an be a lead scorer on a good college team. It's why I wanted Sarr to be paired with another expensive add that could take that leading role on offense and allow Sarr to be an incredible all around role player(play the Scottie Pippen role).

Watkins will be a 24 year old playing college basketball and has been the leading scorer on his team for 2 years in the ACC. He's a proven commodity that can be counted on to step into that role. I wouldn't consider Watkins a step down from Sarr at all even if Sarr is a better NBA prospect.

We just watched a team with two lottery pick type 18 year olds as leaders struggle and be inconsistent. Both Kasparis and Riley will likely get drafted higher than Shannon and Ayo did but Shannon and Ayo were far more impactful players in their final years of college.

Haven’t checked the board in a few days. Seems like things are going well.

Oh, yeah, it's all doom and gloom in here, except for Lville1.

Great news is, we have an advantage on all those schools, when it comes scenery and weather :)

To me, Brad has always been a “plus recruiter” but a minus “Xs and Os/ in-game” coach. I’ve never really felt that we had a coaching/preparation advantage against tourney-quality teams. I thought it was an acceptable trade-off because he was a guy who could always build us a really good roster and talent would win out in the end…

However, something feels different about this offseason, like it’s more overtly transactional versus the past few seasons, where it seemed like there was more actual recruiting happening. Moving forward, If CBB is going to just be about buying new rosters year-over-year, then really all that you need is donor/rev sharing money plus a good “Xs and Os” coach.

So really what advantage does Brad give you at this point?

The most stable factor in this NIL era is the coaching staff, not the players. This is why Brad needs to clean house and lose his nepotism and Hamer. Brad is getting up in years and looking out more for his family (son/coach) than the program. He needs to refocus on the program and get his son a job elsewhere. We might lose out on the “top recruits” but we can clean house on the staff. One actually feeds from the other. Nepotism destroys any organization from within.

We have a pretty good idea of what it's going to look like-what we already have plus:
Ben likely back.
Big money wing.
Guard at the 2.
Backup guard at the 1/2.
Outlook for next season will hinge on the “big money wing.” I like the supporting pieces on this roster but it’s missing a dynamic scorer, who can raise the ceiling of this team, Problem is that, it seems, we’re getting priced out of this market for that go-to scorer. It’s like, we need a “Sarr-caliber” player but we don’t have “Sarr-caliber” cash…

…I do wonder if the market will cool next year once rev sharing is implemented for a full cycle. Like, are teams going to play by the rules and limit their spending to 20m across fball and hoops? If yes, I suspect we can compete. If no, then I don’t like our prospects moving forward.

It’s sucks we waste so much time with recruiting, building relationships - especially with the euros. So much opportunity cost. I feel like their aren’t many programs who have done more and gotten less so far this portal season.
You think we're done? Of course we're not. Having Tomi, Bam, Big Z, Ty, Jake, David Mirkovic, the two incoming freshman and Jackstys is a very good start. Probably Ben H. I've heard we're working on others, both of which excite me (Damir Watkins and Ace). If they don't work out, there are still lots of others out there, it's still early. I have no insider information other than this board, but until Lville starts panickling, I'm not going to.

The Humrichous nickname needs to not be a thing. Let's all agree to make that little period of time be short-lived, shall we?

Also, Peoria boys should always be welcomed back. That's familly within familly. REALLY hope we get Ace back. Ace/Ty is good for this Illini fan's soul this off-season.

Last year was a bummer and we definitely need a deep March run again here soon, but if we pull Miller and a 3 that can seriously ball, I'll be pumped for next year.

#GoodJuJu to the chase, Brad.
