That is some Class-A cherry-picking there Gritty. Always thought you were knowledgeable enough to not need to mislead like that.

I don't think that's misleading. The claim being responded to is that we are missing out on every recruit. That is undeniably what the OP said. The highlighted portions are about why we are missing out on recruits, which Gritty does not respond to.

If it ends up that CBM or Watkins are our big "gets" this year, I think we'll be in some trouble. Both have tons of potential for sure, but also have significant issues and weaknesses. I don't know what other options there are, but I don't think those guys are the alphas this team needs.

Gritty’s statement is correct. Dying Illini’s statement says “May not be why we’re missing on every recruit.” This implies we are missing every recruit, and the “May not” aspect is in relation to why we are missing on every recruit, not that we aren’t missing them in Dying’s opinion.

This narrative is demonstrably false as Gritty said because not only did we retain Ty, Boswell, and Ivisic #1 (which as we know means they were re-recruited in this current atmosphere) but also hit on Ivisic #2 and Mirk.

Our offense seemed to work pretty well against Sean Miller’s team…
Oh Snap GIF

Anderson situation hurt, but it would be okay if they had another guy with some local ties.

Part of the problem was Underwood not being all that personally involved with recruiting and letting AC's have "their guys". That has mostly been fixed. Now go hire another recruiter.
Disappointing. I have never been on the 'fire Brad' team, and I also understand the HC-as-CEO concept.

But we have had many discussions about his handing off the offense and defense planning and in-game adjusting to his coordinators, and now to hear that he was not involved with recruiting as well? What exactly is he doing? Strategy and staffing I suppose but then we re-open all the issues with nepotism and coach retention as well.

Nepotism is still bad optics. two other highly paid assistants sitting in the back with little or no game day input and tyler shoulder to shoulder in his ear from tip to horn. last years roster make up and use of it (3 or 4 frosh on the court at all times and sometimes the wrong ones)) with tre sitting for some rumored reason is what im missing.

If you managed to get both CBM and Watkins you have a top 10 roster, maybe top 5.

You would also get 2 difference makers defensively. Baker Mazara might legitimately be the best perimeter defender in college basketball. Both are long, versatile, and physical.

Also, both guys can absolutely live at the free throw line. Baker Mazara is basically automatic from the line too.

If you have any questions you should pull up the Auburn vs Purdue game this year and watch how CBM's length and mobility gave Braden Smith fits when he guarded him(Smith went 3-12 with 5 turnovers).

I honestly don't even know if you could afford both Baker Mazara and Watkins but this off-season would be a resounding success if you got both.

"May not be" = allowing for the opposite situation
"Many" = by definition not total (admittedly most)

Absolutely not undeniably what OP said, rather undeniably excluding some words to mis-state OP. But open to different interpretations I suppose @Qwiksilvur

I mean you can argue that isn't an effective offense but clearly the strategy was to shoot threes and rebound misses for close put backs.

Generally that worked pretty well. They were one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country.

Now getting people open for those threes to get a better % is a different story. If they are hitting a higher team % we aren't having this discussion. The offense lacked the motion of pieces to get better shots
when 50% of the time Tomi is setting a screen, stepping to the side for a three while three guys are standing and watching, that's not a good offense.

"Many" = by definition not total (admittedly most)

Absolutely not undeniably what OP said, rather undeniably excluding some words to mis-state OP,
The quote is:

"May not be why we are missing out on every recruit...but I am sure that is a factor in many"

The quote is in reference to the makeup of the coaching staff, particularly the presence of Tyler and Hamer.

So the presence of Tyler and Hamer "May not be why" but OP is SURE it is a "factor in many." These are qualifications/modifiers about whether or not Tyler and Hamer are the reason why we are missing out on "every recruit." There are no qualifications in the assertion that we are "missing out on every recruit." That part is stated as unqualified, indisputable fact.

OP could have very easily said "May not be why we are missing out on some recruits," or "on many recruits." He did not. It is clear as day, right there in the quote - "every recruit."

Not gonna discuss specifics or what I have been told by a few of our boosters and also some from other states, but lets just say if you were a top recruit looking at schools and another player that played at said school told you there was a major issue with the team being ran by some 20 something kids and one was a fathers son who knows he can say or do whatever he feels like, would you go there? The TU and ZH issues might be bigger than you think.
Of course I don't know the specifics, but that sounds a lot like a former player talking s**t.

Someone going to enter the portal and have Illini leading only to lose at the end? Can't wait!
