This one doesn't list us in the top 5

That also definitely looks like your run-of-the-mill AI generated clickbait articles that you see in social media feeds (not saying the author is made up or not a person, I'm saying he used AI to generate the content of it). It is basically just a list of all the schools that recruited him last offseason, no homework was done as far as I can tell?

Every Illini reporter out there is talking about Andrej, so I just highly doubt we are already out of the equation here.

That can’t be. We’ve been waiting patiently for this player to enter the portal. This whole offseason has been about him. No other program should have known. /s

Didn't search anything in particular. I saw someone posted one of their videos and decided to watch. They generally put out decent stuff.

I haven't caught up on the board so maybe this was addressed or somebody else had the same response, but Domask was a great distributor at SIU. He was the main addition that offseason that made me feel somewhat OK after we struck out on PG after PG to end that portal season. That aspect of his player profile absolutely translated exactly as one might've expected, just from a different location on the floor and out of different sets.

Love this response. 100% correct. Let me add another level. He took over at Keady retired so talk about continuity. BU was bringing most dudes back until the portal/NIL situations and he's trying to navigate that. Love that a handful of guys are back next year and that will pay dividends. Takes some time to build a program. Pretty quickly he started bringing in top guys and we became relevant again. Then the COVID/Portal/NIL dilemma. Let it happen! So may idiots on this board!

Special thanks to LvilleILL1 for periodically dropping in to this mine field to not only sprinkle knowledge but also herd cats.

Some of these articles feels like phishing scams my grandma would fall for.

I don't get this desire to have DD back, especially at the price he'd now demand and with the accompanying playing time expectations. We have our 5 (Tomi). And we have another good 5 that can back him up and play alongside him at times (Z). We need guards and wings, almost exclusively, with maybe one more addition at the 4-5 spot that can come on the cheap; that ain't Dain.

Wait a second you’re telling me we shouldn’t listen to accredited reporter (checks notes) Allan Wolburg Robles from accredited sports reporting website (checks notes) Sportskeeda???

Edit: after another 30 seconds of research, I see that the aforementioned journalist has worked for predominantly Latin American companies for usually short durations and focuses in SEO optimization and content engagement. I’m not sure, is this a credible source for an American college basketball article, and is it productive to continue to Google “Andrej transfer portal”, not read the article or even check what website I clicked, and copy it into this board?

You’re way too narrow viewed on this. Those guys plus Boswell plus tomi plus z/mirkovic is a top half big ten team at the floor.

That doesn’t even factor in Ty and he who must not be named, both of which can provide valuable minutes at a minimum.

I think if ace and Andrej are our only two other additions we’ll have a much higher floor than last years team. The ceiling won’t be as high, but the ceiling for last years team was literally top 5. I still think this hypothetical roster could be a top 15 team.
Ty was a starter on an Elite 8 team. He was a cog and not one of the main guys, sure, but he played a ton of minutes and provided a lot of value. I don't understand why people continue to write him off or give him tiny roles on our team. If Ty is no longer afraid to shoot after two offseasons (and one in-season) presumably devoted to improving his shot, he is going to be really, really valuable. Even if the shot isn't there, he's still a big, athletic wing that can defend, rebound, and pass, which has a lot of value alongside 4 other guys that can shoot (looks to be what we're going for). I view him as an Herb Jones kind of player (maybe not at that level, but you get the comp -- and Herb Jones wasn't Herb Jones until his senior year, while Ty will be a RS-JR).

Since I know everybody on this board has been waiting to hear my wish list...with a set of semi-realistic glasses on, the key adds I'd love to see are: Andrej and a high-quality mystery player that can shift between the 3 and the 4. Then I see a key rotation of this:
1: Kylan, Ty
2: Andrej, Jake Davis
3: Ty, Mystery 3/4
4: Mystery 3/4, Mirk, Humricker
5: Tomi, Z

Ideally we'd also bring in one more super cheap, Moneyball CG for depth. But that lineup gives a B1G-level starter at each position and some depth with a short rotation. Perhaps its misplaced, but I have faith in Jake Davis playing 10-15min as a backup 2. And I think Ty can play 25-30 minutes without killing our offense (we've already seen it happen, and presumably he's better as (essentially) a senior than he was a sophomore). We need a big wing that can spell us at the 4 if we're left with only Mirk/Humricker/Z as other options -- none of those are ideal, even if Mirk is as good as the Hoop Summit suggests he might.

Big picture, I'm of the opinion that 3 starters are locked in: Kylan, Ty, and Tomi. We need to fill in the other two spots. I'm actually not too worried about depth after that, at least from a NIL standpoint (i.e., I wouldn't spend much of my remaining money on any more depth pieces).

42% shooting from the field and more turnovers than assists don't inspire a great deal of confidence that he's ready to contribute to a team looking to compete for a B1G championship. If we were looking at him as a role player and were confident of landing much bigger backcourt fish, I'd feel better about this recruitment.
