It’s not good when Mike Irvin is involved also.

Staff wanted this wrapped up quickly and it’s Irvin so that was never gonna happen … It’s the same thing that happened the first time around … They waited until after signing day to commit …

Think Brad is starting to get a little frustrated by the whole thing …

Either take the offer and get on board … Or don’t and we’ll go our separate ways …

Can definitely see why the staff likes Andrej…

Can have some of his usage be the KJ pnr handler, some of the Will Iverson cuts, some of the Domask booty ball. And can obviously play off Tomi as an off ball cutter like Will/kylan grew into.

May not be as efficient as his Illini predecessors in any singular role… but the versatility to do every role is interesting. Either way, takes some of the offensive initiation off of Kylan’s plate which is the top ticket item currently. Just hope they do a better job of mixing it up and have his usage be a little less predictable than KJ/Will/Domask.

Irvin is such a pain in the !!!. It’s been aggravating before and it’s aggravating again.

I’ll be honest. I would obviously be ok with landing Miller. Had a solid year shooting the 3PT and playing some defense. That said, he had three years as sub-40% FG shooter. He was like the 5th leading scorer on an atrocious ASU team. Part of me still really doesn’t understand this unless the role is a 6th man scorer, which I kind of doubt. Nostoliga is great but I feel like there are better paths… If it happens, awesome, but I won’t cry if it doesn’t.

This may end up being wrong, but regarding Miller:

If you hear something this weekend, I think it'll be Illinois.

If not, the staff is going to move on to other 3/d targets.

Andrej is the main priority, and they will fill around him in whatever way they need to.\

Here we go again with the Weeknd posts.

In all seriousness, 3nD guys are a commodity. High end wing talent is not. Even if we get Miller, who is our starting 2? I like Miller as a 6th man, but I don't think he's the starting 2 guard on a really good team. Get Andrej and find some shooters.

I think this is very well said. If he's as good as I think he may be, we're already in a very good spot this offseason assuming we land him. Land Ace after this - get us another shooter. Then if Sarr comes, fantastic! If not, who cares. Get an every day guy! Get a dawg! Get a guy that just goes harder than anyone else on the court. We'll have the talent, experience, size, and cohesiveness to be extremely competitive. Let's land this one! ILL

Bam, Andrej, Ty, Mirkovic and the twin towers plus the rest of the bunch is a pretty interestingly dynamic team

Let's look at this like the business it is.

The Wall Street Journal recently published figures for all Division 1 programs, here: https://www.wsj.com/sports/basketball/ncaa-tournament-march-madness-ncaa-team-value-98c44e14 Yes, I know that every athletic department accounts differently for various items, but for the purposes of this exercise, let's presume the figures are 'in the ballpark.' The Top 20 revenue teams average over $31.1 million.

Now look at that from the players' perspective. They could (rightly) argue that revenue is generated mainly off of their efforts. They could argue that they should earn a percentage of the revenue.
If the players are the ones with all the value, shouldn't the G-league games be making far more than college sports?

I believe the revenue is a result of the system that was set up. The revenue would be identical if the top 100 players disappeared overnight. I'd say the players are benefiting from the efforts of others.

They could point to the NBA, where players have negotiated a 51% of basketball related revenue. They could further argue that the cost structure in college basketball is probably lower than the NBA, due to no need to pay for major capital expenditures (arenas typically funded by donors) less travel, smaller support staff (which can be amortized across multiple sports), and that all major schools operate as non-profits (so no need to build profit into the financial model).
The NBA works because the revenues are much higher. If it costs $XM to run a system, then there is no money to split until the revenues are more than $XM/year. Once you cross that line, then yes share. The vast majority of the power conference teams are currently well below that line. And to be absolutely clear. I'm talking about BB dollars, not overall athletics department dollars (which are far worse). As such, the NBA model doesn't work for college sports.

Is it unreasonable for players to think that schools ought to be able to share at least half of revenues with them, or $15 million-plus for the roster? And note, this is only from a share of the schools' revenue -- popular players still can earn separate monies from leveraging their names, images and likenesses.

In short, I don't think where the numbers have gotten to are all that crazy, from a strictly business perspective.
Would you accept a system where companies are taxed 50% on their revenue when the manufacturing costs exceed revenue? How long would those businesses last?

In short, I think it is absolutely insane, and will self correct shortly. I think that this year or next will be the peak NIL years and then people will realize that only 2-4 teams can actually buy results in a given year, so there isn't much point in the high stakes gambling. The players should take the pie while the pie is passing.

Everyone is hung up on visits.

I sold real estate for several years. You would think you would want to see it firsthand before buying it, right? I remember driving people around and showing them ten homes in a day. Man, I hated that.

Things changed. Now, my agents sell most homes without the buyer seeing it before they close. We do this by videotaping a walk-through of the house and neighborhood. I know for a fact that there are videos that show the facilities. We get on a Zoom call and speak to the buyer face-to-face. We get them in touch with a home inspector and neighbors to help them decide.

I'm sure much of that translates to recruiting.

Additionally, the coaches are out on the road meeting with the recruits. Brad and company flew to Seattle to meet with Sarr, and KJ showed up for third-party validation. He knows Illinois will be a good landing spot to get him into the NBA, so I'm not worried if he comes onto campus or not.
Way too much reason in this post for this thread.

He never recovered from his sick time. Correction...Brad didn't play him the same afterwards. Did his psycho mom piss "ol' undies" off while he was out? I guess we'll never know...

Imagine a world giving Adam Miller a million.

And what they were offering Morez, a guy that could very very easily be an All B1G guy as early as this season, a month ago before he parted ways. Mirkovic could be a solid player. But losing Morez was an all-time program fumble IMO.

Just insane.

The bargains are going to be the guys that programs got committed early. Things are absolutely not going to get cheaper here. So many desperate programs out there. And programs with a lot of money to spend

As it should be. Andrej is a stud and a sophomore.
Adam is a good piece, but by no means a difference maker. He is relatively fungible in this market, and has a rapidly approaching expiration date.
Andrej is a headliner.

The suspense is terrible… I hope it never ends :chief:

The possible lineup permutations are really fun to think about… when you think about it.

Kudos to the posters who keep this place fun enough to waste an embarrassing amount of time here. Why else would any of us spend a perfectly Good Friday evening hitting refresh on a college sports message board? Cheers, everyone 🍻

Omg- I have no idea why any coach would ever pursue a player that left once already. Forget it. So humiliating and pretty beta. The only way I’d have a player come back is if they asked and were immediately ready to commit, No pursuit, no uncertainty.
Don’t leave yourself out tbh err to be publicly rejected by the same player twice. Holy geez
