There was a time, from the early 1950's (advent of television) until the move to Peoria and going to a multi-class system, that the IHSA tournament was far more popular than the NCAA tourney. This was true across down-state Illinois.
The tournament was single class, and as Huff Gym (where the tourney was held) only seated about 6000, tickets were like gold. Throughout my school days, we went to the school gym on Thursday and Friday where a bank of televisions set up so we could watch.
We tended to cheer for the smallest and most southern schools. Sometimes we would get lucky and see a Hebron or Cobden make it to the finals. Sometimes we could pick out players that seemed sure to be future Illini.
8 games Thursday, 4 on Friday, Two on Saturday afternoon, and Finals Saturday evening.

Stojakovic could operate as the lead guy offensively which I think would really benefit Watkins and allow him to get easy looks on cuts, offensive rebounds, and catch and shoot opportunities which would allow him to a far more efficient scorer.

Then Watkins would basically help anchor the defense and guard opposing teams best wings. He would add a physical aspect that is kind of absent on the roster outside of Rodgers(maybe Boswell and Mirkovic).

I think Watkins would make them a top 5 team in the country and that might be underselling it. Petrovic might lead the nation in assists playing with Tomi, Stojakovic, and Watkins plus it would take a ton of pressure off of Boswell to score.

I agree I’d love Watkins, he definitely wants to go through the process so I don’t know how soon he’d make a commitment

I think of poor Pru. Not even NL3 would have been enough last night.

I’ve been offline and (literally) in the desert for a week. I return to discover the complete Balkanization of our program! Long may it reign (threes). Well, for a season at least until everyone leaves again 😂

And @PizzaHutParkingLot , that is a truly elite avatar. Orange tracksuits all around! I had to downplay Tomi’s Croatian origin to a Serbian friend last season. Now it’s all good!
