Andrej camp has an agreement with UNC.

UNC used the Ian Jackson/Drake Powell monies to get this done in short order. The Illini offer is not competitive with UNCs after Powell declared.

Expect an announcement soon

Did Andrej even take a visit to UNC? If not and he picks them over us and for less that would be a horrible look for us. Hoping the crystal ball ends up our way for real.
It's been mentioned that UNC recruited him out of high school and again when he was in the portal previously. Likely had a visit in there somewhere and/or is comfortable with what they can offer.

fingers crossed every time I open up this forum. One day I hope it's nailed down.

Final decision has been made privately from what I heard. Graphic could be released at any time, not even going to guess a timeline at this point. Shouldn't go past Tuesday worse case is what I will say. Pretty confident it's us.

Small chance he picks UNC, but we have way more things working in our favor right now.
@LvilleILL1 when this is all said and done can you share what all has happened with this recruitment? I feel like this story has to be crazy.

The training table staff is going to need to stock up on kielbasa, kolaches, and potato cakes, (with maybe a little vodka on the side for victory celebrations). Gotta make those boys feel at home, so they tell their Eastern European friends. We are in for a Slavic sleigh ride and probably developing a fan base back there. Our recruiting map is easily larger than that of any other team in the B10.
From beet juice to borscht

But does it top the Kofi banger.
Not even close. "Kofi Come Back" is one of my favorites...I've watched it many times both for the comedic value and the re-living some of the great Kofi memories. I also love the One Shining Moment from 2020. So many great Ayo highlights, plus Andres Feliz, Trent, DaMonte, even a Tyler Underwood sighting. That was the first Brad team that brought me back into the fold after taking a brief hiatus from the Illini during the "lost years." Pretty sad that this year's version only had Will Riley's Mom in it.

Because "it's a lock" is very easy to say and makes you sound authoritative whereas "it looks like the situation now, but that is of course subject to change" takes way too long and makes you sound wishy washy

I would say if your final decision is us then it needs to be officially announced expediently. If not in the next 24 hours we will look to fill the spot with someone else and then sign them. That's how this waiting game stops that keeps costing us opportunities with other players that can get the job done.

He has visited UNC and has been recruited by UNC before. He doesn't really need to go back there to visit again.

Who are all these players that we are missing out on? It's been a week jeez. Pretty sure Illinois can do more than 1 thing at once. Just look at our latest edition as an example.

FL_8905, In your opinion, is the snag in negotiations a straightforward problem, like $$$ or role? Are the "whispers" playing any role?

I don’t think there’s really that big of a snag in NIL contract negotiations. The $ is there. Hand shakes and smiles took place.

The one caveat may be waiting to see how much money $ UNC can raise. Their NIL situation wasn’t ideal going into this. People assume a bunch of money would be available that was earmarked for Drake Powell. Not that simple, though.

But I think it’s primarily about Andrej deciding where he wants to play. Simple as that.

There are no concerns about the Illinois staff. Pretty good vibes on that front. There are probably more questions about Hubert Davis.

There is also a chance that Florida and / or Gonzaga have been working on Andrej in stealth mode.

You might be misinterpreting which side has the negotiating power in the current NIL/transfer situation.

Yup I’m no master negotiator but that sounded like being inside the red zone down by a score and saying ya know what let’s punt this thing lol

THIS is what I was looking for. Thanks for the detailed explanation of where things stand.

Hopefully things work out.

They also have whatever NIL was allocated to VAL before he went into the portal. That was likely $500k at least.

It has been often said here that recruiting is fluid. This once seemed a solid commitment, and still may be. What ever happens it has sure been a gas hanging out with everyone here on Loyalty.

You make ultimatums if you have all the leverage. If who you're saying it to has all the leverage (which players do these days) they'll just as likely say "Adios MFer" and go sign with the competition.
