I feel like our insiders went from its done deal a few days ago. To some uncertainty. They aren’t sure what the decision is going to be.

I’m worried on this one.

On the inside Illini podcast, Jeremy Werner keeps mentioning people wanting to sign guys early. The reasoning he gives is due to a court decision that is coming, that could change the way things work yet again. Seems as though this would be more of a full athletic department salary cap type of thing.
He mentions that we can use the current NIL funds, then a whole other allotment might open up to sign another guy after the court decision. I don't see it mentioned on this board, however. Any insight into this?
Of course, a salary cap opens up the possibility of under the table payments again.
You can't cap a salary if there is no salary to begin with. NIL is not salary. It is not paid by the school, athletic department, or program. It is paid by third parties. As I've explained before, NIL exists for pros too. Nike shoe deals are NIL. Campbell's Soup commercials are NIL. Chris/Cliff Paul hocking auto insurance is NIL. None of those deals count towards salary caps imposed on professional teams. A salary cap won't "fix" NIL, because it has nothing to do with NIL.

He's referring to the revenue sharing pool where schools will be capped how much revenue they can share which is effectively a team salary cap but there's no individual salary cap. There's also the auditing firm taking over making sure athletes are doing actual work to earn their NIL.

Sorry I was a bummer for a lot of people. Glad to see my pessimistic post generated a lot of positivity. I'll sit back and watch and keep my comments to myself. I hope I'm wrong and always hope we come out on the winning end. ILL

^^^ 👊

Yep. It keeps me showing up at the office weekly. The challenge is explaining the virtues of this mindset to my junior colleagues in their 20s.

Props to @The Galloping Ghost. Where else, my friends, can we enjoy a Sunday brunch mimosa mixing Illini portal tension with Camus?

This is all to decrease possible tampering allegations…
That’s how I rationalize it in my head whether it’s true or not…
