Gun to my head…Illinois. But the kid is weighing family and girlfriend nearby at Stanford vs. great opportunity at Illinois and traditional power at UNC. What motivates him the most? Hard to say.
I agree with where you're at... I remember what motivated me the most in college, but I was also headed to the work force when I got done too! :ROFLMAO:

Please tell me when you typed “family and west coast sun” it autocorrected that latter part to “girlfriend”

I’m sure we have a donor who will pay to get her moved out to Champaign

Other thing I will say about Stanford is it seems like a not great place to play basketball right now. Duke is obviously elite. Louisville is coming on strong. Clemson is a solid to good program and UNC always has potential but it’s a pretty inferior conference at this point. And the travel for the west coast teams has to be brutal.

BIG is a far superior league, and if you’re in the middle like Illinois travel is less of an issue. Plus he would fit neatly into what we run and if he needs physical development we are near the top in the country in that dept.

But, if you have the talent the NBA will find you. Doesn’t really matter where you play. If kid has roots in NorCal and values academics, can’t blame him for wanting to play at Stanford.

Here’s what I’m hearing …

Illinois side is very, very confident he’s coming …

I don’t think UNC is even on the table … And I’ll get into that more below …

Andrej wants to be at Illinois but has concerns over leaving the West Coast & how he would do with long distance from family … Part of it is also the girlfriend factor …

He’s familiar with Stanford … But is it best for his development to go there … Dad says no … And I think Andrej agrees … And he knows what he needs to do … But it’s certainly hard to leave the West Coast & family behind …

My confidence on this one really hasn’t wavered and I still think he winds up in the Orange & Blue … But this decision has been really, really hard for the young man … And in the end, I expect he comes in hungry and ready to work, develop and get to the league …

or he is a California kid & staying home has some appeal.

And despite what we would like to think, UNC is generally rated higher than Illinois in college rankings.

We've been around and around on this a million times, but it is a matter of fact that major resources were dedicated to RayJ in order to make him a core, primary part of the next year's team, and then when that pursuit failed, there was no alternative option, that was just an empty chair on the roster.

That would be bad here. I'm not inclined to take our "Marcus Domask as All-B1G PG" winnings and bet them all on "Jake Davis as All-B1G volume scoring wing" and I know no one else here is either.
Not to mention that the second we missed in RayJ, everyone pivoted to Ty Rodgers is our PG. That experiment lasted about 5 games and then we relied a lot on TJ and Domask.

We basically pulled the Kyle Shanahan and we missed on Tre Lance and luckily had Brock Purdy waiting on the last pick of the draft and just happened to be a top 10 starting QB.

We all gotta leave home sometime. Even in the best case he’s got a 28 out of 30 chance of landing outside of NorCal for his job.

Thanks, again, for your input. :) Hopefully we get good news.
