Why would you assume that she is a valley girl? Not saying that she isn't but it seems like quite a hot take to assume because she is attending a college in California that she is from the valley. Might as well say that Stoj isn't coming because his girlfriend says that orange isn't in her color palate.

It is certainly not.
Recruiting has changed. I don't know how long it will remain in this form. But we took a team last year whose only remaining players were DGL and Ty and took that to a second-round NCAA appearance, 20+ wins, and a few blips and bumps from a top 4 Big Ten finish. We lost several recruiting battles there too. It didn't matter.
Beyond this, the landscape is such that failing to recruit targets leaves you with a roster that might be bad for one year as opposed to putting all our chips in on a four-year group that will never amount to much. That is why these things ought to be far less stressful now. There is no fear of having to plug in Jaylon Tate because we didn't get Jalen Brunson and dooming ourselves to a second-tier squad for the foreseeable future. There's negatives, too. But the angst no longer makes sense.
