I've got concerns about the NCAA trying to draw a line here too.

In terms of losing in court, it has all been questions of eligibility that are arbitrary or inconsistently applied to particular players. I don't think antitrust law stands for the proposition that LeBron James must be allowed to play in the NCAA after his career is over.

I think if they said something like, you have to be academically eligible, enrolled as a full time student, between the ages of 17 and 24, and you only get 5 seasons to play, I don't see why that would have any legal troubles, those being clear and bona fide qualifications that apply equally to everybody.

That's quite radically different than the current rules though, with American pros coming back being the most obvious new talent source. How THAT gets prevented if European pros are allowed in I don't know. Could major college basketball fold in under the NBAPA in a similar fashion to how minor leagues are now part of the MLB union?

The only differentiation now seems to be if you went to college and then pro, you cannot come back. But if you started pro overseas you can come to college.

Think Purdue, Illinois, Michigan, UCLA have the most talent … In that order …

USC needs another piece and they’d be in that tier … If they kept Claude they easily would’ve been in that tier …

A team I actually think could surprise some people next year … Washington …
What's up with Washington recruiting? Did someone give them a boat load of money?

One thing I would like to see is Illinois pressure whoever is handling the basketball more often. Also, don’t be afraid to double the post from time to time. A lot of college big men struggle to read a defense and make a crisp pass out of a double team. I’m not saying you do it every possession, but give whoever the big man is something to think about.

As far as ball pressure goes, our guards were consistently 3-4 feet off opposing guards, if not more. That just makes it too easy for opposing players to see the floor, passing angles, and run the offense VERY comfortably.

That’s also why we never force any turnovers, like literally EVER! Just my opinion.

1. We aren't in on any of the guys you mentioned. I think the only big fish would be Boogie just because of the previous relationship.
2. Gotta remember what might be a small fish to us could be a bigger fish to other programs. More money from them if they value him more.
3. No idea. I could see us offering someone like the guys you mentioned a couple hundred thousand. But is that enough?
4. Rough estimate for this year's roster 8 mil. Give or take a mil
Thank you. Very informative.

I thought we were part of the $10 million club.. interesting to see we may be under that. I wonder what ranking that puts at in terms of spending.

I think that Werner, per his free podcast, had us at about 9M, give or take, and we're out of gas. The roster you see now will be the roster you see in October. He wanted Miller( a 3 and D guy), but again, not in the cards.

They’re not exactly thrilled but what else is new … They spent huge last year and look where it got them …

They’re willing to give DeVries a shot …
Indiana transfers-in include Lamar Wilkerson (Sam Houston State), Jasai Miles (North Florida), Tayton Conerway (Troy), Conor Enright (DePaul), Reed Bailey (Davidson), Tucker DeVries (West Virginia), Nick Dorn (Elon), and Josh Harris (North Florida). Not chopped liver, in my opinion. Indiana started with pretty much a blank slate for a roster following this past season. They needed players, bodies. Not necessarily big fish. The big fish approach last season, with Woodson as their HC, simply did NOT work. So, this year they have at least 8 incoming medium to high-medium fish transfers, with a better HC in DeVries. I think that approach will work much better for the Hoosiers... although I still hope that they fail miserably. 😅

They almost surprised us this year.

I am thinking that if another player is added, it won't be until after the go/no go date for the NBA draft. I think we have a just-in-case bag set aside for Will for that 1% chance. Once that door closes, I'm wondering if Papa Brad gets a brand new bag.

I would be OK standing pat, especially if adding another piece sends an expected contributor into sit-out year mode.

Indy had mentioned Luka and I have watched him a bit. I think he looks very good and Indy had given a "Shhhh!" Gif about him. I if we add another player it is this guy! I really like his game and release on his jump shot.

Oh, yeah! He'd look great in Illini Orange & Blue. Would he be considered a "big fish" for recruiting purposes? One for whom Brad could seek and obtain additional recruiting funds?

Clean slate. Let's try to go the entire day without numbering our posts, and adding '-ic' to everyone's last name on the team! We can do it!

Generally, no, because they are intended to benefit private individuals ($ to players) rather than public interests.

So I have to pay 33% on that million I gave after all? Shoot, now I'm out 1.33 million and short $1,332,998.50

Could they get money of a big fish were to happen....probably but they'd have to do some begging.

Just to put things in perspective...
Riley 800k
KJ 800k.......Both first round picks....

Andrej 2-3 million.....

Washington has a nice arena and now also a practice basketball facility right in the heart of the athletic complex under construction too. Indiana and Illinois games looked just about 50/50 visitors to home fans so lots of upside if they can get fans more excited.

This is true … But as of today, we are pretty much tapped on money …

Brad would have to go get the money …
Brad seems like a convincing guy. If there’s one they REALLY want, I feel he could make it happen with donors

Who are the main suitors for Fland? I'd imagine this will be taken all the way down as he expirements with the draft process. St Johns might be a potential spot, but they're already locked in with two very good guards (Darling and Jackson).

we started curbelo, trent, plummer just a few years ago. why can't it be boswell, petrovic, fland? where's the cutoff?

plus, if one has to come off the bench it's not the absolute end of the world. Will Riley a potential lottery pick came off the bench for 90% of the season on THIS team - a team far less stacked with talent than what would be if we land fland. additionally, look at this year's duke team, or last year's UConn team - all had starting level players theoretically who came off the bench. To have a championship calliber roster, you have to have championship level talent.

I'd probably at least reach out to Ali Dibba (SIU), and maybe to TK Simpkins (Elon), and see if either is willing to transfer to Illinois for $200,000. If not, keep looking! Or just keep that scholarship open?

I like Boswell/Petrovic as PGs, Stojakovic/Davis as SFs, Mirkovic/Humrichous as PFs, and Tomi/Big Z as Centers. I'm just not thrilled about Rodgers, Boswell, Lee, and Wagler being our SGs. I think that Stojakovic could be our SG, but that would, in my opinion, leave us weak at the SF position. This is why I think we need to add one more player, probably a SG (or a SF?), even if that player is not a star, or maybe even a starter.

This will sound very odd when we look back a few years from now (considering it was BH the one starting over him).

I’m really excited about this roster layout. Excited for the lanes that will be open for our guards. Stoja might shoot a record breaking amount of free throws, especially if he is strong playing off of two feet when he gets to the paint.
Defense will start up top. We know KB can guard, how will the other wings hold. I think we have enough guys to protect the paint and I’m not worried about our bigs getting posted that much. Not really the game anymore, but they all have length to bother if they stay straight up.
