I'll be uber surprised if we don't have him for 2 yrs.
I hope so because if we managed to return Stojakovic, Petrovic(should have 2 years), the Ivisic twins, Mirkovic, a healthy Ty, and add a guy like Costanza and some complimentary pieces and the Illini might be the preseason #1.

We will see what happens but you don't often see many 6'7 guard/wings that average nearly 18 points per game as a sophomore in the ACC stick around in college for 4 years(I still think Shannon sticking around for 5 years was a unicorn scenario) .

I'd just focus on the first 3. You're not getting all of them back. You may, but expecting that is very unlikely and quite frankly - as much as people get mad for roster turnover - all of them are interchangeable after you get past Petrovic, Stojakovic, the twins. Those are the four no doubt starters.

Yep, those are the four "pillars" - much like Tomi and Bam this year. And even if you get 3 of the 4 that's still massive (you can always count on Illinois getting that one "star wing" if necessary).

We told Nasir Rankin as part of his recruitment he'd have a chance to play basketball. Now you can close that door before he gets on campus if you want, but I wouldn't.
I'm not sure that it makes a lot of (basketball) sense to pursue these two-sport athletes in today's environment. It's likely that this kid will be tied up with football until ~the new year with post season football responsibilities. The basketball team will have played a dozen games before he crosses over. Even then, it will take him some time to get up to par for basketball. He won't be available for summer or off-season basketball workouts. Taking him precludes taking another basketball player who wouldn't have any of these issues even if that player is an end-of-the-bench type guy.

Having said that, it could work with a player like Tywan Cox if he wanted to run track. The track roster is allowed 45 scholarships and Cox would add value to the track team even if he could only participate in a couple post-season meets.

Bielema owes Underwood big time.

We're Stojakovic's 3rd school in 3 years. Seems sort of like Tre White to me - I'd bet on the trend continuing.
Tre White came off an awful year of basketball when Louisville was a dumpster fire of a program. If you watched him during his final games at Louisville, he was clearly loafing it. A number of folks here (including me) pointed this out. There were signs long before Tre came to us that he wasn't always the easiest player to coach. At some point in the middle of the season, he was confined to the bench, and his relationship with our coaches broke down. Who knows how much of that was our on our coaches and how much of it was on Tre? To Tre's credit, he played well and hard for us during the back end of the season, but it feels now like the damage was already done.

Andrej only left Stanford when the coach who recruited him was fired. At Cal, he was a big fish in a small pond and wanted to win. In contrast to Tre, even when Cal was losing, at no point did Andrej stop giving 100% and trying to help his team win. Can you blame Andrej for wanting to experience winning at some point during his college career? Can you blame him for looking to go to a team that has the resources to pay him 3 million in NIL?

Regardless, I don't think that the parallel you're trying to draw works at all here. You're comparing apples and bowling balls. As others have said, if Andrej isn't being considered as a draft prospect after this season, I expect him to be back.

Stojakovic went from Stanford to Cal when the coach he committed to(Jerod Haase) was fired.
He is a former mcdonalds all american and top 25 recruit that chose to play at Cal and Stanford. I don't think he's the type to just jump schools every year.
If he does end up playing for a new team next year I would bet it's because he got drafted.

Stanford Coach fired, terrible team OK to transfer (y)
Cal - terrible team, crazy ACC travel - OK to transfer(y)

Illini - been to NCAA 5 years in a row. 2 players drafted 1st round NBA this year. elite 8 two years ago.Great strength program. Strong recruiting class of mature players big Z, Mircovic, Petrovic. Strong core returning Kylan, Tomas, Ben, Jake. Solid $NIL. B10 conference TV exposure. 😇😇😇😇😇

Adam Miller bolted after started every game for a loaded team, as a frosh. and that was when transferring incurred a 1 year sit out penalty. point is, don't count your chickens before they hatch

Your point about Cal was known before he went there. So not really a good "excuse ".

I'm a bit concerned he'll find our academics a bit too easy and transfer to some place like Johns Hopkins or Kentucky.

Do not know how I missed that guy? I've followed since the early 80's and I completely missed him. You got a point with that one!

Certainly not a perfect parallel. But these days I pretty look at every player as a one-year thing.

I want Constanza, Foran and Mitchell. But no dunks for Mitchell? What's up with that?
