Our offer on the table isn’t even top 3 right now in terms of compensation …

Not saying $$ will be the end all, be all in this recruitment … But it’s certainly major piece …

My confidence in this recruitment has gone from an 8 to about a 4 at best …
Can I ask where the confidence came from? Back when we signed our last 3-star, I said it seemed clear we'd fallen behind our competition financially speaking, and I was told not to worry and that we were in on Constanza. Was there really a belief internally that we did have the money to compete for him, or did they think the non-monetary reasons would be enough?

Egor Demin was ours… til he wasn’t.
Dame Sarr was ours… til he wasn’t.
Constanza? I guess we’ll see.

This plays out the same way each year. No need to get excited about recruiting “locks.” They have a way of becoming, well, unlocked easily and often.

Yet somehow we had great recruiting class - even without Sarr

Portal - big Z, Andrej
Overseas - David M, Mihuelo P
Freshman - Brandon, Keaton
Retained (equally important) - Tomas, Kylan, Ben, Jake, Ty Jason

Brad is flexible and has plan b, c and d. I think only Purdue and Michigan have stronger roster than Illinois. If that puts us at #3 of 18 B10 schools thats darn good!

I'm sure Brad is very sorry that he only recruited 2 first round picks for last year.

And that his guys only got us to an elite 8 the year before. Should be ashamed.

Who’s plan B

Newman played minutes with Jordan. He should still have eligibility.

Somewhere in Europe whom we have yet to learn to pronounce his name.
If the rest of the Balkans join the EU we might be in trouble. Their players won't be discounted anymore once they're on the Euro.

Discounted as in cheaper?

Dame Sarr price tag seemed decent enough ($3-4M reportedly)

4 star Euro KJ made significantly more NIL than 5 star Will Riley did (approx 900k to approx 600k)

They're choosing to come across the pond and play CBB rather than play in Euro league, which average salary is between 500k - 800k

Maybe I'm not following, though

I think it was a joke about exchange rates.

And Sarr and KJ both came from leagues in EU countries.

Actually, with all our experience lately, we're getting pretty good at it.
Well... we may need to start over the learning process if he comes from China or some other countries...

Hard to see how teams with $4M budget can pay anybody that much next year with $NIL limits. Of course if you have no football team the full $20M could go to basketball.

Problem 1: If you don't have SEC/B10/ND football program where do you get the $20M
Problem 2: How can you get $4M NIL payment approved by College Sports Commission unless you are signing HS Lebron James
