That’d be absolutely massive.
This feels like a "coming to a portal near you" announcement rather than Illinois wants him post. Feel me to correct me Indy...

Guy has the tools. But he's never been apart of a winning culture.

He's probably made 10 million this far playing basketball and good on him. Maybe makes 5 million next year? If reports that he was getting 4+ last year are true...

I've wanted him every off-season but at this point...think I might look elsewhere.

Not sure Illinois has the budget for haggerty or willingness to pay the requested NIL. Obviously Illinois didn’t land him for 25-26.

I feel like he’s been a headache for them, and I’m not sure he would fit our culture. The kid can definitely score, but I wonder how well he would fit within our system—and whether we’d even have the budget for him. Last year, the numbers being discussed for him were in the $3–4 million range, and I just don’t think we have that kind of money.
Now, Ace Glass is someone I would be all in on. And Quention Coleman looks like a stud as well.

Guy can score it that's no doubt....is he an EDG who wants to win? Memphis and then K-State being his last choices throw some red flags..
I question this as well. Not because of where he has been but because he didn’t always look to me like he was playing hard this year. Maybe with all the dysfunction in that team that could be understandable some extent

Haggerty slander is crazy. How is he any different from Martenelli at Northwestern?
The slander is not crazy. Haggerty and Martenelli put up good numbers but their teams sucked. Haggerty had a good situation at Memphis. Marinelli stayed all four years at Northwestern. If you are a team that want Haggerty then I would pay him a whole lot less than what he made at Kansas St. Illinois did the same thing with Hawkins. Coleman was not worth the money he got from Kansas St. And Underwood knew that and let him walk.

Agreed, this would be an easy pass if it were me. I don't want to deal with another AS situation of "He is learning how to play winning basketball"

Haggerty is the guy who statistics say gives you the “ROI” we love to talk about.

But does he actually contribute to winning?

For what it’s worth, I’d be torn on it.

I mean that Memphis team he was on won like 30 games IIRC … Won their conference championship … That’s a lot of winning …

Think we all know the K State team this year had a ton of issues but he still showed up every night ready to hoop …

Not many guys you can say that guy is going to get you 20 every night … He’s one of them guys …

He also doesn’t have to be the “leader” of the team here as a brand new guy … We have guys who will be returning that will play that role …

bottom line: if Brad wants him (despite not knowing what he's doing), so do I

For the record, I’m not brave enough to pass up on the tantalizing stats and talent.

If he truly will come to Illinois and be okay with not being the leader of the team, then all in. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t skeptical he could truly be cool with that.

Maybe a horrible losing year at K state was a strong lesson

Would love to have him

He's played at Northwestern all 4 years
Basketball wise both are great players on bad teams. Neither Haggerty or Martenelli would average 23ppg on a final four contender, as both benefit from inflated stats playing on bottom feeders.

However, with the right mindset and buy in, they could both be very productive on great teams — the elite scoring talent is clearly there.

how's haggerty's defense? we don't need an inefficient scorer who doesn't defend. i know this guy can score and fill up a stat sheet but if we are going balkan again, which I'm sure we are, we need some people to guard

To be fair to Haggerty. He looks pretty efficient.. 49%, 47%, 49% shooting from the field on volume the past 3 years. No idea on the defense - though K-State being 111th in defense would probably lead me to an educated guess on BAD.

I think if he's a bought in 2nd or 3rd best player you got an awesome team. If he's your best and leader, in the Big Ten, I'm nervous.

@Indy Illini Fan is Maurauskus from St. Mary's really on the radar? That would be my dream.
