It's not YOU with the Denzel, it's those who ripped off your schtick (a solid one) and if you hint that there's potential....we all see Denzel in our dreams, then nightmares.

Storr, RayJ, Sarr....then circumstances change because of money. That's just how it goes. In today's recruiting/portaling, nothing is done until the season tips off and the uniform is on.

Good examples … Those were some crazy recruitments …

RayJ far and away the craziest of those 3 if you can believe it …

Pretty sure there were no Denzel GIFs regarding players that signed with other teams — at least not officially sourced GIFs from Indy. He doesn’t throw out the Denzel GIFs lightly and whenever one appears you can almost always — if not always — feel confident about it.
That's exactly what I told Indy. His schtick, which is great and definitely perks up the ears, got watered down because it's tossed around by 25 posters.

I did say that RayJ and Storr(his hotel meeting) were noted as locks. I believe Sarr was there, but the cost went up.

IIRC, the 3 “misses” of the offseason were Sarr, Dix, and Sellers.

And the 3 “hits” we landed in place of them were Mirkovic, Petrovic, Stojakovic.

So, of those 3, just swap the name Petrovic for Wagler and that’s quite the bargain lol.

Z was one we were pretty confident in before the offseason started — he was the first to enter, and it was Illinois through and through.

I think I posted about Z in like February last year … Might’ve let that one slip before I should’ve … 🤣

Sellers instead of Petro on this team … 😳😳

Would’ve been COOKING … And we’re already cooking …

Yeah, that’s great, but Wagner didn’t sit out half the season because he wasn’t ready to play at this level. If Bilic was ready to contribute he would be playing now.

If Bilic is good enough to be the starting SF on next years team, don’t you think they would have found a role for him on this years team?

If you’re confident in it, we can lock it in that you think he’ll be a starter next year and re-visit this when the season starts next year.

what about "mebbe" and "who knows?" is confusing?

It’s a big factor …

Role, Money … Who’s coming back with him ? Who can we bring in to get better ? All things that they’ll discuss …

He likes it here though … He REALLY likes winning … He likes Brad …
Your last 3 sentences give me hope. I really want him to return. Like I mentioned earlier, I strongly believe he’ll be a better player in year 2 in our program. We have seen plenty examples of that.

If you can return a good portion of your core, that culture and chemistry is already built in there. You have guys who understand what we want to do and what the standard is.

Just don’t want to have to start completely over. There will be defections, I am sure. There always is. Let’s avoid having to find 6 or 7 new guys if we can.

yeah, I don't doubt that he wants FMV and that doesn't entail a discount. but, again, I don't see money being the sole driver here

The fact that they’re words you throw in to give yourself a way out if someone disagrees with what you say and one of them isn’t even a word.

Anyone could pick a random player who was under-ranked but had success and say “maybe” he turns into that “who knows”. That’s the nature of recruiting and we all know it.

If you think we will be in great shape with Bilic as our starting small forward then say that. Give me a reason why my statement is wrong, not a cop out.

I don’t recall any of those being locks… just heavy leans. And in the case of RayJ, a very heavy lean that never panned out. That, at the time, was the most disappointing.

But Sarr and Storr were recruitments that stretched out over a certain stretch of time, that saw us as supposed leaders to finishing somewhere in the middle of the pack. Felt very much like a horse race where you start out strong before the thoroughbreds take control.

Those were both about money and we can't spend what certain programs can spend. Since I have met Storr, I can say we lucked out on him not coming.

How does Petro look in practice? Call me crazy but I still wish he had cracked the rotation and was getting 5 minutes a night in meaningful games.

Glad we did not get Starr. Sarr is another story. Duke swept in with the BIG $. Most of the time, they will get what they want. My take is that if we are competing with Duke and BYU for players, we are doing pretty good.
