Not that we haven't been relevant before because we absolutely have but...it certainly feels like we finally have that F4 run+great recruiting+coach locked in for the long haul.

89 you had all three but immediately got hit with the Pearl sanctions.

Early 2000s you had great success, phenomenal recruiting, but Self left for greener pastures.

2005 you had success and a good coach but the recruiting piece wasn't there

Can't wait to see who this program can bring in now that it's all came together!

Retention, Retention, Retention!
Players eligible to return + recruits
1-Z
2-Tomi
3-Mirk
4-Jakstys
5-Andrej
6-Bilic
7-Ty
8-Jake D
9-Lee
10-Petrovic
11-Morillo
12-Ethan Brown
13-Landon Davis

Pretty amazing that Illini are losing 3 really good players in KW, Boswell and Ben H...yet still have a great collection of guys available to return along with 3 talented hs recruits. Pre portal and NIL my enthusiasm for next year would be through the roof. Now it's mind-boggling how things could change.

It's going to be interesting, fun, and frustrating as our coaching staff and accounting department make choices on retention and acquisition.

Now let's win a National Championship and then hold on for what could be a wild ride buckaroos.

There are so many moving parts to retention in the NIL environment. Money, of course, but also playing time, role, chances of winning...and relationships. I do believe Brad and his staff are good at the relationship part and have gotten better at it the past couple of years. He has put together a great staff with a blend of experience and youth and different types of personalities. Not talking about Xs and Os because I don't know enough to do that, but the way Brad has evolved as a coach while still being very demanding about fundamentals that are non-negotiable is really impressive.
