I think we all know what those lists are worth …

Turn on the tape … Look at the box scores … He didn’t “lock down” anyone …

People point to the Stirtz game and it was like the least minutes the kid played all year …

LOL. The lists are legit, man. Get out of here. All of the B1G coaches (and select media) vote for these guys.

You said he's not a "good" defender, that's just a ridiculous statement. He's at least passable for "good". Is he elite? No, but that's not what you said. You honestly think he is below average defensively? Saying that's a hot take when he was selected as a top 5 defender in the best conference in the nation isn't controversial.

Oh, he had a reputation as a good defender, for sure. But especially after he came back from the broken hand, he just couldn't stay with his man, especially in pick and roll sets, and teams with faster guards exploited the hell out of it (see Wisconsin).

Heck, look at the two Iowa games. First game he completely locked down Stirtz and never let him get going. Second game Stirtz lit him up and the solution was to move Dre over to guard him, which solved it.

I was responding to someone who said he's not a "good" defender. Agree that he didn't look the same after the hand injury. Rather than pointing at Stirtz or Uzan/Flemings or whomever, how about what he did against Toppin? Guy had 30+ with several minutes left in the game and Kylan shutting him down was how that game was won.

Back half of the year … Below average …

When playing weaker teams ? Good …

When playing above average guards ? Bad …

Name a couple above average guards that he locked down …

And I’d argue the entire back half of the year … He wasn’t good … Against good comp ? He wasn’t good …

Agree to disagree, top 5 defender in conference as selected by coaches and select media, so argue with them I guess

You are always full of hot takes, unable to take it seriously at times to be quite honest

Same tired old argument. The poor underdeveloped children.

He had enough prefrontal to take a year’s pay for half a year’s work. Seems smart enough to me.

Yeah!! F him and his crazy a$$ mom!!

18 year olds is so stupid!

How a defense fits together can be as important as the ability of each of the defenders. For example, I'm not sure we beat Texas Tech without Kylan shutting off Toppin's water for part of the second half. Other games yielded different results but without knowing every player's responsibility in a particular defensive scheme (and I don't have that basketball IQ), I'm never quite sure who is to blame or praise. This is where I take Brad at his word when he says Kylan was a "problem-solver." And if the B1G coaches thought Kylan was a first-team defensive player, they certainly should know who caused them the most problems.

I agree. His defense was trash the 2nd half of the year. Dre's defense started to pick up and won that game for us in the Elite 8.

I feel caught between my distaste for portal-season narrative manipulation propaganda and my quiet feeling that Boswell's defense has been overrated this whole time.

There were certain small quick guard matchups for which we simply had no alternative to Boswell though, that's undeniably true, and so we were a worse defensive team without him. Fears, Boyd, and Braeden Smith all feasted in his absence.

One of the things I've learned is not to worry about these things anymore. Seems like this staff always finds someone.
Yes they seem to always find someone but for crying out loud why can't it be in the first couple of weeks instead of the last ones. Dont know how many more years my heart can take it. 😁

The 247 board has your home for argumentative posters who must have the last word.

I don't pretend to know ball like coaches but I do know this - we beat Iowa in large part due to Andrej defending Stirtz and Boswell sitting. It's tough for me to think of Boswell as that good of a defender when someone else did a better job of guarding the other team's lead guard. There is no hot take here.

Without Boswell we don't go where we went.

He played without ego and allowed others to take the spotlight and was a world class teammate.

So how about we don't say ANYTHING negative about his contributions?

I mean one game? Okay

Defensively, Illinois was 8 points per 100 possessions better with Boswell on the floor than with him off...

And each of Wright's season defensive ratings are substantially worse than Boswell's worst season, which should give you pause.
You really just have to watch the tape. Defensive metrics are extremely noisy. The numbers are too closely tied to the TEAM being able to get stops. You can do your job, but if your buddy fails, you also take a hit.
