Obviously the competition over the whole season is lower than what we play, but I just looked at the box score against uconn, and he was impressive. His season averages of 17.8 pts, 4.7 assists, .8 steals at 46/33/82 shooting splits is very good for a frosh. He did average nearly 4 TOs a game.

Would we be able to convince him into taking bench/"prove it" role or is he going to want a starter guarantee? If he's good with the former he is an enthusiastic take from my perspective.

And from our end he probably takes the spot that we could use on a veteran PG like a Harmon or Feliz.

'Reek Coleman in the portal. Any interest for the bench pg role? People on the isu board think he's Depaul bound.

I hope Blackwell does not drag on. I feel like every season we go heavy on a guy that drags and then we scramble to fill after he goes somewhere else. Now obviously this staff is great at the pivot, but love to see what they put together if they hit on first choices.
The window to enter the portal has been significantly shortened (only open for 3 weeks), as has the recruiting period. It's going to be a wild month.

I think one of the most insane stats about this guy was his usage/%poss rate at 34.3% (usage/%poss defined as rate a player's actions end a possession, either by making a shot, missing a shot that isn’t rebounded by the offense, or committing a turnover).

He was 7th in the country in this stat, which is wild for a Freshman. AJ Dybantsa was 10th at 33.6% for context.

He was playing around 30 minutes a game at Furman. This kid is going to have a TON of opportunities to start at the HM level. You are either penciling him in as a starter and giving him big bucks, or its going to be a short conversation.

Wow just a frosh.
The 3-point percentage isn’t very good. That’s just another problem to have later in the season. And nearly 4 turnovers per game and at that level.

I appreciate his height, ability to get to the rim, and score, but I don’t see how this helps Tyler’s offensive system when you have Stojachovic.

According to this article (paywall), Illinois is in on a top Freshman from 2025 that is in the portal. Has this player already been discussed on here. I just can’t think who it would be.

As of Wednesday afternoon, six players ranked in the top 25 of the 2025 class have entered the transfer portal, along with several others ranked in the top 50. Many lived up to their high school billing, averaging double figures as true freshmen. Others are looking for fresh starts after limited playing time.

We rounded up the latest insights on each former top freshman in the transfer portal and where they could end up in 2026-27. Arizona, Illinois, Gonzaga, Oregon, Michigan, Indiana, Alabama, and North Carolina, among others, are all in contention for one or more of these names.

yeah - I'm sure you're right. It was a combination of wishful thinking and trying to project available spots on next year's roster w/Coleman coming in and the projected returners, and (hopefully/likely) Blackwell. I know I should just be patient and let it all shake out and not start in with the "where do we stand with Hopkins/Storr/Wilkins," but I can't help myself.
