I don't think that the Montenegro pro league is a higher level than the Big Ten. There are 3 NBA lottery picks playing in the Big Ten this year with another 2-3 first round draft picks. Sure, they are older, but the Montenegro league doesn't have athletes like Lendenborg and Morez Johnson.
How do you know that? Have you seen much of the league?

Does the amount of athletes or lack make one a better league than the other? The SEC has better and more athletes than the Big Ten, but that doesn’t mean it was a better league and the Big Ten.

He was a 4-star, top 100 6’4” SG coming out of high school that showed promise in limited action. I really hope he sticks.
Have to imagine it’s easy to make the argument to him that we were literally a final four team loaded with talent, we played him as much as we could

Honestly gotta give it to Petro. Came here expecting to play (most likely a lot) and hardly saw the court. Instead of causing problems or being a locker room cancer, he was an outstanding teammate and never seemed to complain. Wishing him the best of luck in his future
Well to be fair, if you paid me two million dollars for nine months of doing nothing, I wouldn’t complain either lol.

Lee would surprise me, just because we need developmental guys for depth and his role of ball handling/defense is a gap right now. Unless he wants to go somewhere and play more - but he could have done that out of HS and chose to come here instead. I would think he would have been eyes wide open that it would likely require a couple of years of not playing before his time would come
When he committed, most of us assumed he would be ahead of Wagler…
He was also banged up for the first few games. When he came back he actually got more minutes than Jake in a couple of games. Obviously, those guys played better, and he was out of the regular rotation once the competition ratcheted up.

What difference does it make where Brandon Lee stood when he committed?

Its the same with Ty Rodgers. The coaches and the players in the rotation see these players in practice every day. They know whether Brandon and Ty can compete right now. I am confident those were the first decisions made.

As for the announcements? That is a completely differently different story. There is some serious monetary strategy involved. As we stand right now 4 players are leaving (Kylan, Ben, Toni, Petro) and 4 freshman are coming in. That leaves us at 14.

There are several more announcements to come. We still haven't officially cleared roster space to add transfers.

As for the speculation? right now that's all it is. Speculation.

There is no way he is 6'4"
A picture of him standing next to 6’4” coach Brad says he is every bit of 6-4! He actually looked taller than Brad but ya got to compensate for the hair🙂

I also assume that Wagler will leave for the Draft, and I'm thinking like you that Ty will enter the transfer portal. Good list, (fellow) Grandpa!

It would seem that we are missing a PF to back up Mirk, or even to play alongside Mirk. Here's a player that I see in the portal that I hope the Illini would look into. It's 6'8", 230-pound sophomore DeSean Goode of Robert Morris. He averaged 15.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists this past season, while shooting 62.9% on FGs, including 57.1% on 3-pointers, and 76.3% on FTs.

Some folks on this site also think that Big Z might go to the NBA Draft, or maybe transfer to a school where he could start next season. IF Zvonimir leaves, I'm intrigued by a certain center in the transfer portal. It's 7'1", 230-pound sophomore center Massamba Diop of Arizona State. Diop averaged 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists this past season, and shot 56.9% on FGs (30.8% [only 8 for 26] on 3-pointers) and 71.5% on FTs. The only potentially daunting issue is that his former assistant coach at ASU... Nick Irvin... might now be Diop's handler relative to his transfer.

With the new 15 roster/scholarship limit, there sb no problem even if Ty, Wagler and another transfer/recruit want in. Agree?

Lee's old man won a Natty at Marquette, and was one of the two superstars on that squad. I seriously doubt that someone with those genes is going to be content in a role similar to the one he had with the Illini this past season.
