He’s going to get a lot better shots here than at Providence. Watch his tape. He very well could become a 40%+ shooter here.
He should be better here next year because he will be a year older and have another year of experience and hopefully he develops his game over the summer!!!

Ok…If this happens, this kid is going to be a problem for the B1G in our offense.
He will be a plus for the Illini only if he can be a plus defender. Otherwise, he has no chance at being a starter. But that depends mostly on want to which can usually be determined prior to making any kind of offer. If he can conivince the Illini staff that he wants to become his best on both ends, then come on down. Otherwise, you become Iowa, and that will never happen, and should never happen, under BU or any Illini coach. You either defend on the floor or you will be defending the water bucket ands get spot minutes. If you can't contribute offensively during those spot minutes, you will play when the walk-ons get to play.

We got killed by small, quick guards game after game during the past season. If we roll with the speculated lineup of Vaaks, Blackwell, Andre, Mirk, and Tomi next season, we’ll get torched even more by quick guards.

I don’t see how that’s a viable lineup defensively. Vaaks would need to guard the opposing 3, so you’d need Blackwell or Andre to guard the opposing team’s point guard.
Quentin Coleman is a better athlete than KW. He is the solution to that dilemma. Might add another guard in the portal depending on who leaves. Brad’s still cooking

I’m not fully up to date on all these potential guys’ defensive skillsets, but from last year’s team this will be the only thing that gives me pause. Yes I hope we continue to have an elite offense like none other, but what we needed it seemed to enter that upper upper echelon of title favorites was a top tier defense to complement it. I want to make sure the team we put together is strong and dependable at stopping shots, as much as we are at making them.

Morillo seems to compare well to Francisco Garcia of Louisville 2005. Will need minutes, but like what I saw.

FWIW, Duke fans seem confident in landing Blackwell. I’m sure they win most recruitments, so they likely see it as Duke visit = Duke commitment. But it really does seem like that recruitment is still up in the air.
It would truly be a seismic shift to their psyche if they were to lose a high priority recruit to Illinois. Might not be a full blown panic but there would be that nagging fear that the foundation isn’t sturdy as in eras past.

Vaaks
Blackwell
Andrej
Mirk
Tomi

Coleman
Z
Davis
Ty
Morillo

That’s insane team. Likely better than this year’s F4 team.

I know that’s 10 players and Brad typically settles into an 8-man rotation, but having more than 8 playable players is smart. Odds are a guy goes down with an injury even if just temporarily (Tomi, Andrej, and Boswell each missed games due to injury) or you have a guy that doesn’t work out (Petro).

So to find your core 8, you really need to start with 9-10.

If he goes elsewhere, I’m still confident the staff will find a suitable replacement.

Calling Vaaks a Ben replacement is genuinely ignorant. He’s a lead guard.

Vaaks and Blackwell will be replacing Keaton and Kylan (throw Coleman in there if he outperforms somebody).
Did I not ask if he would be side by side with Blackwell insinuating he is a guard?

Don’t be such a keyboard warrior

Seems like our recent so called secondary recruits worked out well. Vaaks is also 19, could see a larger development growth than a 21-22 year old. I would gladly take a taller/younger Bennit Stirtz.

Meant to post with the video but the way he moves and shoots I see a lot of Bennet Stirtz but hes even more 3 point heavy in his shot diet. 12 shots per game and 8 are 3s is kind of wild for a lead guard. If he did end up coming would love to see him expand the downhill part of his game because he definitely shows some athleticism.
I like everything about him. Sure it’s a highlight reel and “bullsh*t” program BUT…

If he can excel in that system, (or lack there of) making off-balance shot after off balance shot…and being savvy enough to finish at the rack; plus the court vision. Wow, would all that translate here!
Really enthused about him.
