I could be wrong but I thought his first redshirt was because he wasn't going to play and wanted to save a year of eligibility.
Maybe they’re counting being butthurt about lack of potential playing time as an injury.

The 8 man rotation is for February and March. Teams play 9 or 10 in November and December. You can’t play an 8 man rotation the entire season.
Lol, they are kids and if they want to be NBA guys they better be ready for 2x or 3 more of those minutes each week! Come on.man. how many minutes do you think Will played each week this year vs last. How many do you think Keaton plays if he kills it like i think he can in an 82 game season. These kids can play a ton. They play more players to figure out rotations and what works. Hell, they play hours hard all year.

Getting Mirk back is the key, and Brad is surrounding him with top talent and outstanding role players. Ten little known facts regarding Mirk:

1. Superman wears pajamas with Mirk's likeness on them.
2. Mirk once calmed a wild charging grizzly by bear hugging him.
3. Mirk doesn't get blisters, but his shoes do.
4. When he became a teenager, the circus ran away to join Mirk.
5. Mirk only brings a knife to a gun fight, to try and even the odds.
6. When shaving, Mirk vigorously rubs his hands on his face. The only thing that can cut Mirk, is Mirk.
7. When Mirk once got pulled over for speeding, the cop ended up apologizing and wrote himself a ticket.
8. Mirk is not allowed in bowling lanes near campus. Apparently, bowling overhand is now banned.
9. The ten gallon hat Mirk bought in Houston now holds twenty gallons.
10. Mirk once finished first in the tour de France by 6 hours, after teaching himself to ride a unicycle.

And like, Petro wasn't PLANNED to be the 9th man, he was supposed to be core with Wagler or Jake soaking up bench minutes. (Or even Lee ahead of Wagler)

Jake wasn't PLANNED to be the 9th man the year earlier, he wasn't going to play at all and Carey Booth was supposed to be in the rotation.

You need too many options in order to have enough options, it has always been a paradox of college basketball and is why there were transfers even before the portal.
Yup. Most coaches want an 8-man rotation. But they want to start the season with more than 8 guys that are capable of being in that rotation. Some won't be as good as hoped and 1-2 might get hurt and thus the rotation solves itself.

let us not forget that we had many years of hoping/praying for other teams scraps.

appreciate where we are at but let's not forget where we came from.

It's honestly kind of endearing that despite Podz in that season being the WCC POY and a top 20 draft pick while we lost Skyy Clark and Luke Goode and had to rely on Sencire Harris and often had Matthew Mayer initiating the offense, and despite Trent Frazier (GOAT though he is) playing in Russia while Podz starts for the Warriors, people within the program STILL won't admit they were wrong about this.

One gets the sense Podz is kind of obnoxious which I would imagine plays into it, but that's one of the 10 best basketball players we've had at the program in Brad's time and we goofed up letting him walk.

Wow I didn't realize he was Mr. Basketball too. Greg Gard, you're screwing up buddy.

Davisic coming back is nice in the way it indicates that this can still be a developmental program and its not "start as a freshman or portal". Brandon Lee stepping into a bigger role would enhance that as well. That said....

It's pretty funny that the only person who's going to happily swallow an "actually Coleman, Vaaks and Brandon Lee is plenty at guard and we should be excited about that" propaganda pivot is me.

What are the reviews on Lee's defense like btw?
I'd just like to point out to rehash your line of reasoning about Weber not being able to handle Jerrance's recruits is the same line of logic you used here about Podz.( and I agree, he can't suck then play 1 year at a lower school against less talent than. BIG10 and be 1st round pick. That logic doesn't follow)

And a point I like to make about BU. He has run off quite a bit of talent esp at the guard position. He can definitely assess talent and recruit talent, retaining talent has been not so great. Also the Monster Mayer experiment was a dumpster fire.....
Which leads to the current usage of the personality assessment. From the outside it may seem BU can wear on players and they leave. (Dressing down Epps) maybe the evaluation is not are they EDGs, but are they willing to put up with BU longer than others. Are they just searching for yes men and passing over the best talent because BU can't get figure out how to manage a roster of highly paid college athletes? Food for thought.....

I'm almost certain he had his chest opened and a 13th rib attached to spine removed. Preventing future blood clots and death. Thats what thoracic outlet syndrome is. Son had it, took 18 months recovery and strength training to get back on field in college Station. It is painful and a major surgery. I hope he hangs, long road and he's a large human.
Wow....that is the first bit of information I have seen about JJ's health problem. Sounds like, according to your info, that playing at all next season is out of the question. I am certain we all wish him a complete recovery and hope to see him back on the floor at some point. Was any of this ever published anywhere or is this just info from conversations had with those who know more?

I feel very confident about Blackwell. Dad is an alum, he is a perfect fit for us, we have the money, and we have a winning program with great vibes at the moment.

I think, and hope, it is similar to the Yaxel decision last spring where he turned down significantly more money from UK to go to Michigan to win and be developed.

And I don’t think it’s a multi million dollar difference like it was for Yaxel last year

I’m sort of surprised the VCU kid wouldn’t be a pivot if Blackwell goes elsewhere
No disrespect to you, but pass on the VCU player, Hill.
Watch the last 2.0 seconds of VCU @ SLU this season and report back.

it’s time for JJ to transfer down & play
he’s not gonna play much , if at all , for us
He is a third year freshman at 6'10.5 and likely 250lbs thats cheap and i pray wants to be here. Why do you want him to leave as a 12th man? Given our roster and depth at the 1-2 Why not Blake? Sometimes i dont get people. Jason has played fine and has sometimg we may need. Jason doesnt need to play this year unless Mirk.gets hurt or Tomi or Z go down or a team with a true power 4. Sometimes i wonder if anyone tried to guard a 6'10.5" 250lb big guy. Jason was ranked 127th by 247 2 years ago and has done just fine when he has played but you guys want him to leave with 3 years in the system. But want Zaens, Femdemi or Jake trying to cover Pherrell Payne if Mirk gets 3 or 4 fouls? I just dont get the hate Ben or the one guy over 6'8" besides Z we have that you want to go! I certainly dont want Jason to need to.play this year but nor do i want him to leave. Hell no, he has shot 80% and rebounded , not turned the ball over and a 3rd year freshman! He is a value and given our current roster if any 4/5 gets hurt we need his !!! way more than Blake or even Lee!

I think the sophomore version of Brandon Lee is absolutely playable. For that matter, I thought the freshman version was too.
He wasn't playable in the slightest this year, so I wouldn't be so confident he will be next year. I'd classify him in the same realm as Petro if he were to return.

We will have an 8 man rotation if we miss on Blackwell:

Vaaks, Coleman, Stojakovic, Mirkovic, Tomi, Zvonimir, Jake, Morillo.

That'd be a somewhat disappointment, considering we were aiming so high with Blackwell. But more than that, it would be risky. There's zero room for injury (or someone underperforming).

However, if we DO land Blackwell, then you add a likely preseason All American. The team might be considered the title favorite.

It's a big time hit or miss.

This seems best for all involved. Wish Ty all the best. Hoping he finds a role with a lot of playing time outside the conference.

JJ gets no disrespect from me. But if you read the post made about 10 or 12 posts earlier, his health issues will likely not allow him to see any activity this year. The post was made by Jamie13197.

JJ is an excellent rebounder--17 rebounds in 48 minutes of playing time. That is a higher rate than Mirk who set the freshman record.

What!!!??

He took 5 shots this past season, all of which (based upon memory) were dunks.

Would I love to have Blackwell on our team? Yes, no brainer. If we miss, I'd love for us to look at a quick guard who can distribute and get in the paint. Really think we're missing that.

I feel like the JJ posts are performance art at this point. The bogeyman of Pharrell Payne every time this gets raised again is laughable. We would likely have a 5 on the floor for Payne, etc. It's not unsolvable.

I like JJ for what he is, but even if healthy there is no world where I see him holding up against Payne either. It's such an odd hill to die on.

I appreciate that. I hope he gets healthy but he still.more likely to play in a game that we are only ahead by 10 or less than Blake and folks are wanting him to leave when really as a freshman in his 3rd year at his size ans investment im totally fine with that. He will possibly pay off and with all due respect to Blake or the AJ Redd guts, Jason is a steal if he can play next year or later. I dont get people. We need a back up at the 4 with size in case of injury. Blake, Ty, Zens, and Lee arent that. We are long but only 3 guys over 6'8" 235 without Jason. I like insurance incase of injury and i think we add someine in that role now.
