Pretty girls, the Hollywood Hills, and the ghosts of legends swirling around the largest banner collection have a pretty deep appeal.

Both UCLA's strengths and its weaknesses are unique, there's not another program like it.
Their appeal sure does not include playing in front of 16000 screaming/rabid/crazy fans. But those California girls are special.

So let me make sure I have this right. Our disaster scenario (no Blackwell) is the following:

Vaaks
Coleman
Andrej
Mirk
Tomi

Jake
Z
Morillo

That team may win some games. Personally, I would like one more veteran guard if Blackwell doesn’t happen. That’s just me.

If we get Blackwell are we done for the offseason? If so who steps into the back up 4 role? Or is it just going to be the combo of Mirk, Z, and T?
Morez (runnin' this ___ back) :)

We clearly have the money. IMO it would be disappointing if we don't get anybody at all (if Blackwell goes elsewhere).

Approaching 60 yrs of Illini BB for me. Fondly recall early names like Dave Scholz, Randy Crews, Denny Pace, Greg Jackson, Rick Howett, Les Busboom, Mike Price, Jim Dedecker, “Spoon”, Nick Conner, etc, etc. Loved them all, and all since…and still praying for that NC run!!
Having been an Illini fan and season ticket holder for 55 plus years until I moved to New Canaan, CT a little over 6 years ago, I saw every one of the players you named play for the Illini. Rick Howett's older brother, Bruce, was a classmate of mine in Law School at Illinois. Had season tickets for the 04-05 season and thought last year was almost as good. Love being an Illini basketball fan being led by a great coaching staff.

Us as a fan base should know better than to discount our unheralded freshmen. Maybe Brown and Davis (and possibly Zens) will get some time too

Crazy to be in a spot where it's basically natty or bust expectations. We've got the F4 taste and now with the #retention(plus hopefully and addition) that's where we're at.

Will be interesting to see how the team and fans handle that expectation and pressure when there is an inevitable rough patch. We know the fans won't handle it well, but this group seems connected enough to pull through

Or we just go undefeated 🏆 🤔
i don’t expect an NC

I will expect a FF tho

I think Z will play more than 15 mpg. And towards the end of the year, I think whoever's 9th in the rotation (guessing Morillo) will see their minutes go way down. Brad, like most coaches, wants a tight rotation by tournament time.

Just hoping everyone is relatively healthy so this comes to fruition. A few injuires and all of a sudden you don't look that deep.
Two excellent and very important points. Health and/or eligibility issues have haunted the Illini in most years, and especially the Underwood years.

And coaching Z up a bit and finding that new guy more minutes is critical to this team's success. He is a unicorn of talent.

Wow...yet another poster who has learned from history. We should expect this to be the case based on history, but who knows? I can answer that...no one. We will see.

Not to sound like a d, but no thats not right. If we miss on Blackwell, we will be 'pivoting' to other high caliber options which would alter your starting lineup...

Tipton reporting that we are "likely now out of the race for Blackwell." Is there any truth to this?

You HAVE to get a veteran guard. Recruit over Coleman if you have to in order to create a true contender. Can’t afford to waste this opportunity

Ok! He's a d!ck.
Also have to factor in who all will throw that bank at Blackwell just to keep us from getting him because they know it would make us one of the favorites to win it all.
