I invoke the sacred name of the great....(drum roll)

Govoner Vaughn

Watched him and Mannie Jackson play even when they were high school stars at Edwardsville High School and later as teammates at Illinois. At the time they played for Illinois, Illinois had very little height and as they were both good jumpers and rebounders, they were often playing against bigger players on the inside.
As most know Mannie did well financially after graduation and bought the Harlem Globetrotters. They were both excellent players for the Illini.
They were also two of the earliest African American players to play for Illinois. I believe my good friend, Walt Moore from Mt. Vernon was the first AA to play at Illinois. I knew Walt when I was living in Macomb, IL before moving to New Canaan, CT.

Let’s predict some scoring numbers for next year….

Blackwell - 14 ppg
Vaaks - 14 ppg
Drej - 14 ppg
Mirk - 14 ppg
Tomi - 12 ppg

Z - 8 ppg
Davis - 6 ppg
Coleman - 3 ppg

Morillo <1
Zens <1

Curious what people think here? This would be an 87 ppg team avg.

This is going to feel like the longest offseason

Bored Halloween GIF
If that’s how you feel on today of all days, then you are really, truly “crazed.”

Us as a fan base should know better than to discount our unheralded freshmen. Maybe Brown and Davis (and possibly Zens) will get some time too
The only thing I can think of as potential skillset needs would be a guy who keeps the ball on a string to break the press, and a board banging small forward to give Mirk a rest.

(By the way, I remember the scouting report on Mirk - that he could go strong inside. I recall thinking no way could a European translate that easily to ball in the states... Maybe in a couple years. So glad I was wrong. Those tourney games were PHYSICAL, and he would have made a Final Four toughest guys list. U Conn guys are blacktop brawlers, always, Michigan gave it back to them, and so did we. Houston too, guys were all over the floor. We had pizza hut parking lot attitude, but another guy who brings that tempo and fight to the locker room would not be wasted.)

I realize we don't have unlimited funds but this might be the best chance for a national championship outside of 1989 and 2005. Throw the kitchen sink at Blackwell. Pony up. These chances clearly don't come around often.

The article basically states that since Andrej has announced he is returning, Illinois won't pursue Blackwell. Is this a coping mechanism? Wishful thinking?

"However, the Cardinals appear to have received major help from Illinois and Andrej Stojakovic, as the 6-foot-7 shooting guard has elected to return to the Fighting Illini, making it certainly feel like Illinois is out of the race for Blackwell."

No idea if this is legit. When accused of breaking the news for the kid, he responded "was granted permission"

he is. i found that tweet myself by checking in on the wisky board, buckyville. they know about that guy there and seems to be respected and in-the-know.
