Don't blame Blackwell. Would be rough going from top 2 guard on Wisconsin to #5 guard behind Coleman/Vaaks/Brown/Morillo

Once again, we should not have issues with our starters. Vaaks-Coleman-Stojakovic-Mirk-Ivisic is a heck of a lineup.Wow, now a 5 star!

I understand your point, and I believe STRONGLY in both Vaaks and Coleman. I expect both guys to be really, really good. One thing people need to understand: You aren’t getting a good transfer to join your team to play a niche role off the bench. That’s not why they transfer.
And why add a guy who gives you the same thing as a current bench player or high school recruit?
Sorry if it’s already been said, but wouldn’t this apply to Ben too?Vaaks
Boswell
Andrej
Mirk
Tomi
Coleman
Z
Davis
Morillo
Shows how far this program has come that our 5th option on paper heading into the season is a five star recruit.Wow, now a 5 star!

They think they have more than 8 playable guys.Once again, we should not have issues with our starters. Vaaks-Coleman-Stojakovic-Mirk-Ivisic is a heck of a lineup.
However, going into the season with only 8 playable guys is playing with fire.
It's crazy. Literally he can be as good as Fr Ayo if not better. Portal and NIL days...Shows how far this program has come that our 5th option on paper heading into the season is a five star recruit.
Here’s where Coleman stacks up to some of the other names we targeted:Wow, now a 5 star!

I view this year as special (at least compared to the last 20, though hopefully it's the new norm). In a different year where one more depth piece might move us from a 4-seed to a 3-seed, I understand being pragmatic, but with solid chances for a natty, every little bit could be hugely valuable. One thing people need to understand: You aren’t getting a good transfer to join your team to play a niche role off the bench. That’s not why they transfer.

Where are you seeing this? Defensive metrics are notoriously imperfect, but Torvik, EvanMiya, and Sports-Reference all suggest the opposite.According to the number Vaaks was a better defender than everyone we have returning. Dunno if it was due to providence scheme or what
I mean that was pretty clearly an error in the calculation for him to be 91.Quentin getting that 'blue blood bump'![]()
Who takes the place of Ben?I would expect Illinois to now add a guard once the portal closes.
He's #4 in the transfer portal on CBS, ESPN, and 247, so I assume he's looking for a bigger role. Not saying anything about his fit here, just pointing that outThe staff seems to feel good about the current roster with the 14 players we have now. Even if they feel good about the guard rotation of Vaaks at PG, Coleman at SG and Morillo and Lee being able to contribute, they must realize we’re thin in the front court. Big T, Big Z and Mirk are great but if there is a foul fest or if someone gets hurt heaven forbid, I don’t think anyone is comfortable going with Morillo or Jake at the PF for extended minutes- so IMO, the four spot should be where they use the last roster spot.
Allen Graves seems to be what you would create in a lab to be the backup for Mirk. He only started 4 games for Santa Clara as a freshman so he might not demand a large role this year. He had 2.8 offensive rebounds in 22.6 mpg last year which is a crazy high rate. Shot 41% from three on 2.6 attempts per game and somehow got 2 steals per game which means he’s in the passing lanes a lot. Seems to be just what the doctor ordered- a stretch four that can rebound at a high rate and attack the offensive glass
