What a mature young player. Both mentally and physically. I hope he is a Illini legend when its all said and done.
This can’t get buried at the end of the last thread. Morillo certainly does not see himself as the backup 4.

If he’s going to join the Illini, he’ll have to delete that “a” in his last name. Can’t be an “ic” with extraneous letters…..A possible Ben replacement in Europe Nikola Kusturica who plays for the same team as Kasparas Jackucionis did FC Barcelona
If any of this were the case, he’d still be here. Time to let the dream go.Feel like Ty Rodgers would've been quite helpful, as the roster currently stands.
Would've played a lot -- him or Davis for first perimeter player off the bench. Can plug a multitude of gaps, 1-4.
Would provide quality defense and ball handling. At worst, gives us another reliable/playable veteran (and valuable leadership).
I'd take him back in a heartbeat (if it were a choice).
I agree. But he likely wants to go somewhere where he will start and that's not happening here.Feel like Ty Rodgers would've been quite helpful, as the roster currently stands.

Rodgers is a good player but doesn't fit the system currently being used by Illinois. Hard to see Rodgers or Lee getting more than a handful of minutes, thus the reason they went portaling. Best of luck to them.Feel like Ty Rodgers would've been quite helpful, as the roster currently stands.

The only place you can play Ty offensively is in the dunker spot or as a screener/roller.Feel like Ty Rodgers would've been quite helpful, as the roster currently stands.

I wish Ty could have developed any type of mid range game at all, much less a 3 pt shot. He had every opportunity to do so and busted his !!! im sure! He is admired and loved for his work effort but He just never did develop a shot at all. It sucks! It wasnt due to lack of effort. We all wanted him to do that. What you stated is 100% true. I get people are very loyal to him, as they should be. But. much like Rudy from back in the day at ND everyone loves Ty here at Illinois and while he was a elite level high school player and very good athlete his perimeter game just didnt develop here and in this new offense he is just try to fit a square peg in a round hole when it comes to our current offensive scheme. I hope he finds a role that plays to his strengths somewhere but its not going to be here unless he is coaching one day.The only place you can play Ty offensively is in the dunker spot or as a screener/roller.
If you play him in the dunker spot, he can be guarded by a big who gets to play defense at the rim and not have to worry about closing out to even a short corner jumper.
If you play him in the P/R, his man will play drop while the on ball defender gets over, leaving the best shot out of that a mid range jumper, which is not in our preferred shot diet.
Ty is tough, loyal, and a great locker room guy, but he doesn’t help create any advantage offensively. Our whole scheme is to make the defense have to put 2 on the ball and play 4 on 3 from there OR the 1 on 1 matchup is in our favor and teams don’t want to help because of the guys we have waiting at the 3 point line. Ty allows teams to put 2 on the ball without maximizing our ability to capitalize.
I imagine we won't see 300+ again, but this year could be a bit of an outlier. It's an exceptionally strong and deep draft class. It's great news for college basketball, NBA basketball, and the players themselves. Everybody wins. Except Indiana.
Ty would've provided DEPTH, which we are lacking.
True, which is why he could have stayed.Ty would've provided DEPTH, which we are lacking.
True, but that's clearly not a role he was interested in. I love Ty, but he's entitled to make his own choices and he's decided he'll have better opportunities to get on the court more elsewhere.Ty would've provided DEPTH, which we are lacking.
Right. Ty started for a team that finished 2nd in the B1G, won the B1G Tournament, and made the Elite Eight.True, but that's clearly not a role he was interested in.
