I absolutely think Morello is going to be a stud. Whether it is back up point or off ball, he will flourish. I look for him to go off in one of our first 10 games.

OR, because we'd be playing 4 vs 5 offensively, it would not be a net positive. The last time he did play for us, he didn't bother even looking at the rim from more than 10 feet out. Purdue didn't even bother guarding him. Running what we're running....he couldn't be on the floor.Ty would provide a few more wins playing D at the end of games.
Maybe not, the coaches might call a timeout and direct the best defenders to guard the entire court, everywhere except the basket.
I'm not sure if you can call back to back years of winning both the ACC regular season and ACC Tournament Championships, under-achieving... Last time Coach K did that was 98-99 & 99-00.how many years of underachieving does JS get there before people start wondering if he can actually coach?
Thanks, and pardon my orange and blue paranoia. Just hadn't seen an update for a while
Yeah, the NCAAT is a cruel measure of success (and E8/F4 are pretty good even for Duke as you point out). Consecutive top three finishes in KenPom/Torvik after a tough first year and improved second year tell a different story.I'm not sure if you can call back to back years of winning both the ACC regular season and ACC Tournament Championships, under-achieving... Last time Coach K did that was 98-99 & 99-00.
In his career, Coach K won 79% of his games. JS has won 83%.
3 years in a row making the Elite 8 or better. Coach K hadn't done that since they won back to back titles after losing the National Championship with Laettner, Hurley, Hill, & the gang...
He is going to have to win big eventually, but considering how their arch rivals have floundered since their last HOF coach left, Duke has been left in pretty great hands.
Also keep in mind that Coach K had 4 Final 4 appearances before he ever actually won the big one. (2X runner up & 2X loser in the Final 4)

Really hoping Jakstys is ready to contribute. He looks like he put on significant "good" weight, which we knew he needed to do. He's also pretty athletic and can shoot some from outside (which is important for a big in our system). We all know the 3-man rotation is Mirk and the Twins, but there will be times when we need something from someone else. There will be a fourth "big", whether or not they are in fact big. Maybe that's Morillo maybe it's Andrej maybe it's Jakstys but the role will exist.
The possibility of more Double Ivisic lineups (which I believe in, but there are questions) and our penchant for not fouling minimize that role, but don't eliminate it, even ignoring the likelihood of some sort of injury period we have to contend with.
Limping along a non-big defending bigs is very common in basketball. It just wasn't something we ever had to worry about last year because of how much Ben improved defensively.
Wow. Didn't know that about K. Everyone can't be UCONN can they?I'm not sure if you can call back to back years of winning both the ACC regular season and ACC Tournament Championships, under-achieving... Last time Coach K did that was 98-99 & 99-00.

Yep, heās the only every day guy who wasnāt even an every other year guy.Like how he provided depth the last 2 seasons? Pretty sure we'll be just fine

And we really don't need much. It's a "ten minutes against certain opponents" kind of thing.Really hoping Jakstys is ready to contribute. We are 9-0 in games he has played in. Gotta get him in the game.Really hoping Jakstys is ready to contribute. He looks like he put on significant "good" weight, which we knew he needed to do. That will happen when you have a 80% eFG% and KP 174.4 ORtg (by far the highest on the team). We are 9-0 in games he has played in. Gotta get him in the game.![]()

Let me know if you want some more...many examples across NBA and College
when you bring in (by far) the best players year after year, shouldnāt the expectation be regular championships? duke donors arenāt paying for ACC titles.. the ACC stinksHaven't you got the memo that NCAAT results is the only thing that matters?
Obviously tongue in cheek, but expectations are always so much higher for a school like Duke, so maybe that is the case -- champ or bust.
In his four seasons at Duke: Back-to-back ACC regular season/tourney championships; one Final Four (should be two without collapse against UCONN); two Elite Eights, and one second round finish (his first season).
The guy can win at Duke, especially if he keeps bringing in these fantastic recruiting classes. He always has loaded rosters, so it is I guess valid to question how good of a coach he is, but this idea that he is underachieving at Duke is insane (unless he is expected to win a championship once every four seasons).
