I would argue that Rod Smith wasn’t that bad and really wasn’t fired. Love was fired and BB wanted to bring in his guys.

Never felt that should reflect on any staff at the time of firing the HC, you maybe see a handful of staff stick around during regime changes.
Whether or not Rod Smith was technically "fired" is probably not all that important. He was average at best, and it was time to make a change.

We needed to hire a better head coach, and we've done that. We needed to hire a better Defensive Coordinator, and we've done that. Now it's time to hire a better Offensive Coordinator.

Unfortunately, "average" means he was our best OC since Locksley
