The foreign names are tough to keep straight, ya'll.

The AP poll is a joke. It’s made up of a bunch of random journalists - some who follow basketball and some who don’t. I remember a few years ago we were ranked fourth in the country but a journalist from Hawaii didn’t even have us ranked. He said he forgot about us. System is broke.

The computer metrics are way more meaningful.
Amen brother.

Listen, I hate it, but at some point you gotta win the games. There's plenty of teams who win the games they're supposed to and then always come up just short (or worse) in those non-guaranteed wins. Until proven otherwise, that's this Illini team. Our good wins are against a Wisconsin team that's been weak to us for years and a decent Arkansas team, that's it.

You can be loved by all the metrics in the world, you still gotta win the games.

Mostly close game against Alabama? This year’s game? Illini fell behind double digits about halfway through first half and it remained double digits the rest of the game outside of maybe 2 minutes in middle of second half when they got the gap to 8.

Obviously the poll is a joke, but perception is reality and we are missing opportunities to put our name into the consciousness of the basketball world. That will affect seeding and odds of winning it all (the stated goal). Yes, we are young. But we have guys on the team, as leaders, who have played a lot of basketball against top tier talent and getting paid handsomely to do so. Hate to look at it that way, but that is the reality of college basketball today. I just want a national championship before the game as we know it is gone forever (might already be). The time is now to start getting these games in the right column, starting with Mizzou, who will be no pushover.

True we do need to win the games but discrediting the two quality wins we do have is contradictory.

The problem is the most recent poll doesn't have anything egregious in my opinion. There's no team in the top 25 I can point to right now and say definitely doesn't belong based on everyone's current body of work. I could accept that Illinois potentially deserves to be in over Michigan and Clemson based on real performance if someone would like to argue that, but being #24 vs. just receiving votes isn't that terrible a difference.

Voters still see the Ole Miss blowout, a loss to NW, and the Bama game wasn’t close.

Wisconsin has lost 3 in a row. It’s not a great win.

I think there’s an expectation for a top 25 team to beat a #1 team on their home court. Creighton did it to Kansas rather easily. So when you fail at that, you are not going to be treated like a top 25 team.

UConn is ranked based on rep. But they have beaten Gonzaga, Texas, and Baylor. And they are getting the back to back national champ bump.

Agree that Gonzaga is too high

Voters see how young our team is so they want they see more out of the team. Some see it as a detriment.

Polls: attention, mostly close games should be given your utmost attention. Dont worry after Mizzou and Oregon spank us, it won’t matter.

Four (4!) points are basically the difference between where we are and a solid top 15 ranking. From what I’ve seen the yutes are taking it to heart and busting a$$ to take the next step(s). The TN loss was heartbreaking, but it wasn’t back breaking. All our preseason goals are still out there to be had.
