I don't know if this is allowed, but I really like that idea.

If ever there was a year where a team could lobby for an extra league game, this is it. The reason I think the league would object, is that unbalanced schedules are contentious enough as it is, and without everyone getting behind it, it's probably easier to just say no. OTOH, a make-up game might get more TV money, so who knows?

Yes, will be interesting to see if league allows this. Really don’t know why they wouldn’t. Safer for the two programs, and not sure what the difference is between a non conference game against a league foe and one that isn’t. Oregon State’s first game of season was a non conference game against Cal.

I love the idea, I would have to think it would count as a non-con game though, right? I can't imagine you can have 2 teams with 1 more conference game played than the rest of the league for standings/seeding sake.

Would you want to be the team that had 1 more away game than home games? Or pick up a tough opponent? Or like your schedule as is and see it changed?

I got the impression from Underwood's latest press conference today that there's a lot more flexibility than usual, and the league understands this is a crazy year, so I doubt they'd take anything off the table. And the consistency in testing is league-wide, so that's another plus. Fun fact, and I don't know if this is true, but Underwood said about 1 in 4 games are getting cancelled or rescheduled. Given the raging pandemic, I suppose that's pretty good, but that's still a lot of missed games.

Fort Wayne had to cancel their game at Notre Dame tomorrow due to Covid concerns, so ND is available.

Midwest is a mess re: Covid. I would fear playing any non-con team. Doubt that happens.

We didn't show much interest before in scheduling ND for this weekend. Seems unlikely this last-minute cancellation will suddenly change that (especially with BU stating pretty unequivocally that we won't be playing this weekend and we're turning our attention to Duke).

Underwood says 72 hour framework for games is probably the shortest window to schedule a game. Wouldn't be comfortable without a team working within the Illini testing protocols. Want to make sure players are COVID-free heading into conference under B1G protocols.

Underwood was an advocate for B1G-only play.

"I wasn't going to have a game with [UT-Martin] having [a positive]."

Underwood: "We will not look to reschedule this game with them. We will just move forward and start preparation then for our next opponent. We kind of had to restructure our weekend activities obviously."

The only way that it could work would be if the other conference team also missed a game. Can't exceed 27 game limit.

That would be a great substitute for us, but I bet we'd both never agree on venue. Then again, you never know since no fans, no real home court advantage. Someone tell Underwood to call Brey.

I fear nobody. We need to play upper level teams, no more critter schools!!
That should be "no more directional schools". But of course we should all fear playing any school outside the Big Ten who may not have the resources to control the virus and/or test appropriately. No need to play anyone outside our scheduled teams unless they are a Big Ten fill in. Not that Illinois (the State) is in great shape in general, but Indiana looks to be a hot mess as well. Hard pass.

I do know for a fact that ISU tried to set a game with the Illini but just couldn't work it out. I am sure if they had a 72 hour window , both teams could work out an agreement.

The NCAA should set up a COVID portal, akin to their transfer portal. Teams looking for a game could post their availability there and suitors could pursue them at their discretion.
