Barring a discount like Luke gave us with Tennessee, a QB's market value is just that, his market value. You will need to pay to retain just like you'd need to pay to get one in the portal, assuming Clayton finishes the year strong as as the #1 QB.
What Luke sacrificed for us was wonderful but it's highly unlikely we see that again.

We won't be playing Michigan States 3rd String Defense for this game either. A true freshman vs. the Ducks... Oregon will be at the very least be a 3 touchdown favorite and as you state probably even more.

GREAT time for a bye. Let Lunney figure out the best game plan for Clayton. Maybe also work on some packages for Boyd to throw the defense off, and at least make the rest of the teams on our schedule do some extra scouting. Maybe Beilema tweaks a few things with the defense to get them playing a little better, not expecting much on that front though.

Does Boyd have any arm? I know he's a running threat, but if we bring him in and he can throw it would be a nice decoy for hopefully a long gain.

Nebraska will look great for three quarters, look like they’re horrified playing football in the fourth, will cough up a late lead and the Ducks will come to Champaign less desperate.
I was looking strictly at the schedule and realistically, we should be 5-1 now if good Lunney would have showed up.
They have yet to do that this season aside from the Portland State game. Typically they are a scoring machine with an above average or better defense. Something is not right with this year’s Ducks. They will still beat the Illini but not sure if it will be by 30 like 2024.
We could be 5-1 but there's a lot of challenges left on the schedule. 2024 Illini might finish 9-3
