I'm sorry but keeping those conversations "private" is such a spit in the face to the fans. How many times do we have to get jobbed with no public accountability and no consequences before anything changes? B1G officiating in football and basketball is atrocious every single year. We are not the only school that suffers, but there's no denying that we have dealt with more than our fair share of it.

"Sorry, Bret." on the phone does nothing to help fans believe than anything will ever get better. I mean heck, even if it has to be after the season where the B1G shows fans 10 calls that were ruled incorrectly and said we will work on preventing these mistakes in the future, that would go a long way. Otherwise we are going to have people speculating about biased refs and fixed games and all sorts of should-be nonsense every single week. That ruins the experience, and will turn people off to following this sport.
They can get penalized for public criticism of the refs, right? Saying that he sent clips to them is as far as public criticism without blowback can go. He will also have more clout going forward doing things this way.

Who's #7 on defensive backs....got smoked on the big one at the end of game.....seems to be a step slow on a couple more moves during the game?

Keeping it out of the media doesn't mean there's no accountability or consequences. The old management adage "praise publicly, criticize privately" is extremely sound. There's no advantage to the conference in telling the fans that they addressed an issue with a particular ref or crew, because the next time it happens (because it will happen) those same fans are going to criticize the league that it didn't do enough.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as angry and frustrated by that TD decision as most people, but personally I get no catharsis from knowing that a ref got suspended for it.
You are correct. The main issue I have with these kind of replay calls is there is no public accountability of anyone connected to the conference. Devito had to answer questions about the stuffed drive and his play throughout the game, including a pick. Chase Brown had to answer questions on what happened on the stuffed goal line 4th down. BB and Lunney had to answer questions about the 4th down call and inability to limit penalties and punch in scores in the red zone.

But no official had to publicly answer one question about how the replay decision was determined as it was. Not one last weekend, and no one ever will. That is the problem. As far as solution? The solution may well end up being worse than the problem; I haven't made up my mind on that one. But I agree with others who say if you are going to have replay, get the damn call right based on the evidence clearly in front of your face on the screen. We've all seen too many of the "cover the official on the field" decision, this one directly impacted one of our games.

Edit: In addition, if memory serves, the on field official didn't even explain why it was not ruled a catch. May be wrong on that one, don't have the heart to go back and watch it.

The on field official didn't even know how to use the microphone controls on his waist .........Knowing how to use the replay instrument's was above his pay grade.........

The refs will never explain to them he media about a replay call. The refs are graded I assume by the head coach to the BT office.
