Some time has passed … My feelings remain the same …

Pathetic showing last night … Embarrassing … Unacceptable …

OL play and development … Unacceptable … Time for a coaching change … Period …

TOUGH ? SMART ? DEPENDABLE ?

WEAK … STUPID … UNRELIABLE …

That’s what I saw last night …

We doubled down down 60 and got starters hurt …

DUMB !!!!!!!

Giving up 63 ??? Can’t happen … Henry got EXPOSED …

Bret has A LOT to fix … I know he’s working on it … But it starts with staff changes …

And his answer last night that they didn’t have any answers ???? UNACCEPTABLE … PERIOD !!!!!
Everything went wrong and yet starters were still playing (and getting hurt in garbage time). It was almost a blessing that Miles got ejected in the first half...at least he will be healthy for next week. Sad to even have to think like that.

Yeah, I mean I guess we're all grieving the loss of something we never really had in the first place so the switch in perspective is a good idea. 5 years ago if you offered us a bargain of "you get a 10-win season but the next year Indiana blows you out by 50+ points," I think most of us would have taken it in a heartbeat.

Just going to have to resolve not to compare ourselves to Indiana because I think that comparison is going to be the cause of a lot of psychological harm amongst Illini football fans for years to come.

Last night I came away with: Indiana looks elite and we don’t. Blow outs happen in all sports at all levels. There reaches a point where a team cannot get anything going and there other team does everything right. I won’t judge us by the difference in the score but in the difference of depth plus strength in all areas.
It is one loss… most of us thought we would lose 2-4 games and feel like we did well! Still might!
Indiana exploited our weaknesses and had the athletes that could do it. Other teams will know where we are weakest but it does not mean the are good enough to make us pay. Elite teams can and will.
On to the next one. … new day and a new team!

Apparently Bret does think it's acceptable, Miller still has a job after multiple seasons of lackluster line play and line recruiting...
Contrary to what some fans think, solution to something unacceptable isn’t always firing someone. I think we are probably at that point now but we don’t know a thing about the coaching dynamics at play.

One loss and Illini fans are ready to jump off the ledge. The USC thread is already miserable. After thinking about last night, it’s established that Illinois is a second tier Big Ten team, which means they could win anywhere from 6-9 games depending on their schedule, health, and favorable bounces. Last year, the Illini had good fortune in all 3 phases. Got dominated by Oregon, and offensively outside of 2 drives struggled against Penn State who committed several mistakes to keep the game close, but otherwise we were good enough to compete with everyone else we faced. It’s a hard truth for us to accept but Cignetti is a top 5 coach and he has already made Indiana a top tier program, which we have struggled against the last few years. Bielema and the staff have done a good job developing the current roster into a competitive team, but they’re just not good enough to hang with the big boys because the talent isn’t there…yet. We need to have a solid season to retain the talented recruiting class we have coming in and build on that if we want the program to take the next step. This year may end up a lot like 2021 Iowa State, a team that returned almost all its starters and was considered a Big 12 and playoff favorite only to finish 7-6. If that does happen to the 2025 Illini, hopefully we don’t follow the steps of that Cyclone team that followed up 2021 with a 4-8 season before rebounding the next 3 seasons because I cannot bear to see the Crying Illini fans b*tch and moan about how Illinois is the only program in the world that loses football games and disappoints its fans.
All I’m looking for is sustainable, consistent success. 7-9 wins a year on average.

This cycle of a good year followed by years of suck is getting really old.

I don’t think we have a defensive analyst. Would’ve been nice to add Joe Bob Clements so Henry would have a veteran to lean on.

thats a Joe Bob on the far right reaching for Nick Noltes neck - but he’s not that Joe Bob you’re referring to

I consider Werner pretty fair and objective in his analysis- man, he is going scorched earth in his post game analysis. Both Werner and Wagner just destroying Miller and Lunney. I'm still stunned at how woefully unprepared we were last night. Almost like it was a bad dream.
What makes it even worse is didn’t they say got a jump on preparing for Indiana before the season started?

While Illinois' performance last night was awful in so many areas, is it possible we are underestimating how good Indiana's roster really is? They showed strength, skill, speed and drive throughout their roster. I expect they will give both Oregon and Penn State all they can handle, even on the road. Win either of those games and they will be a dangerous opponent for anyone in the playoffs. Win both, of course, and they are playing for the Big 10 title.

I'm sure we'll all calm down a bit as we approach next week's game ... I know I will. As you said in another thread, though, I'm just currently still so bewildered and confused by not just the margin of defeat but the WAY we got manhandled.

One thing is for sure ... our staff HAS to now understand just how urgent it is to fix these issues. Hate to call a game this early a "must win," but given the psychological and reputational damage done by that IU beatdown, I really think they should feel like they have to beat USC.

Xavier Scott likely out for the year because we had him in while up 30 against Western Freaking Michigan …

Matt Bailey likely out next week because we had in the game him down 50 …

Risked Luke getting hurt last night …

Left Torrie Cox in way too freaking long … He gets hurt …

These are things Bret can control and didn’t control and didn’t handle correctly … He ain’t innocent in all this … You have to protect your investment and he did a piss poor job of that last night … That falls directly on him …

Lunney - what was the game plan ? Seriously … Watching film back … No adjustments … NONE … ZERO …

Bart Miller - I’ve seen enough … He ain’t the guy … Wish him the best … No development … These ain’t guys just learning how to play and to tell me we’ve got no one else behind these 5 ready to play big ten ball ? It’s unacceptable … Not the right answer …

A Hen - It’s like a roller coaster … Find some consistency … I get you lose Green Dot with Miles … I get you’re on 3rd stringers … But we had no fire in the belly … From the blocked punt on … That’s unacceptable …

Discher - speaking of the blocked punt … Special teams … Atrocious … Pathetic … Did we even practice special teams this week ???

Penalties, Mental Errors, Turnovers … Failure at all 3 …

I don’t know if this is a quick fix … I don’t think it is …

I think we’ve been exposed … We’re a broken team …

Seasons not over … But what a momentum killer …

We got to hope for just a winning season at this point…9-3, 8-4 or 7-5. Its going to be battle to get there but I think it can be salvaged if we can get some of the guys back from being injured….We will not get all of them back but we will need some of them back to get it done.

Those first two lines just stuck a wrench in me.

I sincerely hope the Bret never leaves starters in when it's over. what's the point? risk far outweighs reward. not rocket surgery. ugh

That’s what was most puzzling to me. The staff has always seemed to adjust well and our second halfs have been better than our firsts. No change yesterday.
