Did you actually watch this game?
I watched the game and I've watched the entire season. I'm not trying to overreact. 2 of 12 from Plummer hurts. They rely hugely on him. 6-22 from Frazier/Plummer(4 of 13 from three). That hurts. 8 of 22(as a team) from three hurts.

They had 12 makes inside the three point line(Kofi 8). Outside of Kofi and Curbelo, who gets to the rim and finishes? Without Kofi in the paint, what is that, 4 of 34? Not sure if my numbers are exact, but close.

22 of their 56 shots were threes. That's roughly 40% of the offense, which is the norm for our group, which is fine ....as long as you make them.

There's a reason that this team goes on long scoring droughts. It's reliance on three from anyone not names Kofi.

I will say that there was a HUGE side story to this. That's the free throw shooting. Can't shoot 15 of 23 from the line.

Lot to be disappointed in

Seniors are to lead and they didnt
free throws except for Kofo who was great
curbelo was really good on a few passes and bad more of the game
Hawkins was really good
I disagree nothing good comes out of this loss.
Assumed Grandi would play.

Not very often we’re going to shoot 35% in a game where it felt like we got incredible looks all day. But hey, rather now than 1st round of the NCAA Tournament. My main concerns are 1) feeling like we got out-toughed at points in the 2nd half, 2) free throws…, 3) and our frantic offense when we’re playing like we NEED a bucket. Only 7 turnovers, but didn’t it feel like 17 considering how timely they were? Unfortunately, a deep run in March involves a lot of luck and toughing out close games, and today was not a glimpse of what I want to see next weekend. I-L-L

Is anyone really surprised? Their last real dominate win was ironically against IND, since then, their play has been uneven at best, unfortunately today it caught up to them and man oh man, what was Kofi thinking on that last foul? He absolutely has to know their next foul puts IND on the free throw line.

I skimmed the comments and our fans hating on Curbelo is as crazy as those hating on Hawkins the other day. I will 100% take the tradeoffs of what he brings vs his errors. He is a gamer who makes plays. That last layup was off by a hair. That's how far away he was from winning us the game. And honestly, even if you think he should be out, without Jake who else is even an option at this point? His missed free throws were the only thing that annoyed me, but otherwise he was good.

I also would have loved to hear the board reaction if it was Curbelo and not Frazier who threw that ball away at the end. Would have been crazy. With Trent, though, its easier to accept that mistakes happen...or most likely you guys just blamed Hawkins. That seems more likely.

Someone should let the team know that because they lost today the shot clock doesn’t reset on their first possession next week

The sky is not falling We are a 4 seed now probably depends on a few other games. IU played a good game and are now in the tournament

Hawkins was solid and made up for Grandson 3s. Hope Plummer gets hot again.

Need to work on free throws leaving too many points on the table. We also need to finish a little stronger at the rim

Getting rest in my opinion and being able to respond will do this team well next week

To everyone knocking Curbelo:

Read that in Billy Red Beard’s voice and got a much needed laugh

Curbelo plays out of control way too much. He gets through for a layup but wildly flips it up hoping it will go in. Other teams have guards that penetrate to the rim and make a sure-handed layup without spinning it off the glass or banking it high off the glass like a trick shot. Curbelo's style is wildly behind the back and through the legs erratic whenever he tries to do it all by himself. He needs to dial it back. And why was the last play of the game not through Kofi when they are just down 1? The team has such wide performance swings from game to game and often just half to half that it does not bode well for the Big Dance. They are capable of making a deep run, but need to be more consistent and focused. And make their layups and free-throws!!!

How bout that Larry S***head call on Kofi where he negated the basket but kofi shot free throws ....how do you call that ???/.....It was clearly an and 1 3 point possiblity................

I severely dislike all inept refs and Larry S. is the most inept , and with the volumes of bad baggage in his background , anything is possible when he refs a game .....JMHO.................

To lose on 1. Plummer passing up his shot to swing it around to a Curbelo heave to beat the clock; 2. a pass to someone sitting on the sideline; and 3. missing a wide-open layup stings so much. Combine that with all of the other mistakes which wasted Kofi's remarkable effort is brutal.

No Milwaukee. Prime upset spot in the bracket. Just like last year, this remarkable era of Illinois basketball looks like its going to end on a sad whimper. Desperately hope I'm wrong.

OK, it’s now official. The Illini are suffering from ‘De Paul Disease’.

What is De Paul Disease? Roundball historians will remember some of the De Paul teams of Ray Meyer back when they routinely were highly ranked and even Number One in the Nation for many weeks in several years.

They would come in to Tournament Time perched up high. And then QUICKLY wash out in the first game of The Dance and pack their duffle bags and go home with questions and long faces.

De Paul Disease is: hating to play tournament ball. Or at least, not doing it well.

We know what happened to our Beloved last season. We know what happened today.

Something is preventing this team from succeeding when the time of playing the most important ball of the season comes along.

Fortunately, the Orange gets a another crack at it in a few days. The more important game and the more important tournament yet ahead.

BUT... they have got to fix this. They never could get control of this game today just like what happened with Loyola last year.

Those talented De Paul teams had to live with a legacy of job undone. We don’t want to see the same thing again with Trent and Damonte and Kofi.

Too many guys are playing scared with an obvious lack of confidence. And when you do this, your opponent can immediately SMELL THIS. And how can a veteran team still be so unsure of themselves?

There’s time to fix this, Illini. There’s still Madness ahead. Madness, please, not Sadness.
Couldn’t read the entire take, but you remember we won the B1G tourney last year, right?

Okay, I have SLIGHTLY cooled off and will bestow upon you all some “looking at the bright side,” with positivity exponentially increasing…

1) This might avoid an utter beatdown against a red hot Iowa team that wants revenge … keeps our 5-game streak against them alive!

2) We were on top of the world last year when Loyola punched us in the face … maybe, MAYBE this shows this team that our current level of play and today’s result indicates we’d lose to an 8-seed-type team … much less a 5-seed.

3) Honestly, maybe we do need some practice and rest.

4) Get Grandison back!!!!
I like that you’re ok with the loss in part because Iowa was about to blow us out and now we get to avoid that shellacking. 🙂

There were several things that contributed to this loss and I think we could all name a few. This pattern has reared it's head several times lately and I'm afraid it won't go away ncaa tourney time. Playing against teams unfamiliar with us may help but unless we shoot better consistently we will exit early. Hope I'm wrong.

I think people are overreacting big time. Indiana needed this win, it was essentially a home game, and we were bound to let up after our last game.

Only thing that bothers me is Plummer didn’t shoot at the end. I don’t care what you’ve shot this game. You’re a great shooter and we need you letting it rip.

I didn’t watch the game. Saw the final score and jumped on Loyalty because I love the recency bias and extreme takes. After each game, we are either the greatest or worst team in history. Never change, Loyalty. Priceless yet free entertainment right here.

The "woe is me on here,"...my gosh. We were B1G champs, and we lost to a team desperate to win. We should've won this game. We missed WIDE open shots all game. In what scenario do we even imagine Plummer passing up a shot, let a lone at the end of the shot clock, Kofi fouling a dude 15 feet from the basket, and Trent passing to Coleman Hawkins with the game on the line? All three things happened in the final 2 minutes. In the future, Plummer nails a fadeaway, yet ill-advised three, Kofi lets the man blow by him and blocks his shot on his way up, and Trent fakes to CoHawk and lays it up.

Curious, is there a strategic reason why we often seemed choose to put none of our players on the free throw lane, especially when it's a one-and-one (which needs to be retired...), are shooting FT's barely over 50%, are winning on offensive rebounds, and players might be a bit more relaxed with teammates nearby?
