Hope we can somehow hang onto the 4 line. I want no part of a 5-12 matchup with how up and down we can be.

Fine, I’ll defer to your knowledge. However, it doesn’t take a basketball expert to see that we rarely have a set play and a contingency plan in these situations. If the team knew the plan on a miss was Andre taking it to the hoop (and that’s fine, but they SHOULD know that), three other guys should have been preemptively swarming the glass with one posted at the three-point line in case the trees are too tall.
yeah, woulda liked that too, but we couldn't have PLANNED for Curbelo to have a path to the basket. It was there, so he took it, can't blame him. Woulda been nice to draw contact, like you said. However, there was literally no contact to draw.

That's two really ugly games in a row for this team, one win, one loss. I'm sorry to say this, but I wouldn't expect this team to win more than 1 or 2 games in the NCAA tourney. The team seems fundamentally flawed, and is lacking an offensive leader who can score. Got our shooting up to 36% for the game. Coach Underwood needs to have this team work on layups, dunks and free throws. Williams scoreless but played great D, and Plummer/Curbelo combined for 3 of 19 shooting? Ugh.

I wonder if Hawkins was where he’s supposed to be? If Frazier draws the wing defender, isn’t Coleman supposed to be in the corner?
Hawkins did not want to get in the corner with less than 10 seconds on the clock. He made the right cut. There are more scoring options with the ball in the middle of the floor than when it is (potentially) stuck in the baseline corner.

Wow the Brad is a bad coach people are out. And Our players aren’t highly recruited need to recruit different even though we have been in the top 20 for several yrs people. We just finished at the top of the Big Ten and had the most missed games of anyone in the country with a starter out today and people think BU is not a great coach. This team has never jelled because they haven’t plaid together.1

Brad likes to point out how the teams practices defense 2/3 of the time. Yeah it shows bc your offense is an utter train wreck when it matters most.

Considering they called a TO to discuss and likely draw up a play, I'm assuming this one was on Hawkins not being where he needed to be

I didn’t watch the game. Saw the final score and jumped on Loyalty because I love the recency bias and extreme takes. After each game, we are either the greatest or worst team in history. Never change, Loyalty. Priceless yet free entertainment right here.

Guys, lets take a step back here. 5+ years ago it was "can we hop off the bubble" "can we make it to the 10 line, and win our first game, just to lose to the 2" "at least we'll be a high seed in the NIT, but probably won't make a run." ILLINOIS BASKETBALL IS BACK. We are not worried about making the tourney that matters. We are "worried" for whatever reason about a 4 seed or 5 seed, either way we're splitting hairs because we either get upset in the first round (WHICH IS A PART OF MARCH!!!), or we play the opposite seed in the next round. Our concern isn't worrying about making it into the tourney, its moreso, "How far are we gonna make it in the tourney?!?!" AND I, FOR ONE, LOVE IT!!!!

Brutal...
Couldn't make a layup or dunk. I chalk it up to a bad game, but really wish it wasn't in the first round that we lost in....
Hopefully the feeling will sink in and the boys will come with a bit more fire at the NCAAs!

This team has me worried, huge scoring lapses poor decision making, bad free throw shooting the equals an early exit from the tourney. We have not been consistent team all year. The lack of line up continuity has obviously contributed to that; however, we have got to be better with the ball in late game situation. Iowa is a much better suited team for a deep run the NCAA tourney than we are unfortunately

Did you actually watch this game?
While I definitely don’t agree with the take, it seems bizarre (anecdotal observation here, nothing more!) that we seem to regularly drill two early threes in every game and it’s not usually an indicator of how hot or not we’ll be from three, lol.

This is a really good team; I just cannot figure out the inconsistencies. :(

I really think there was so much pressure to have to win the B1GT in order to get a 3 seed, it was difficult to not look at 3 games ahead of us over 3 days, instead of just 1 at a time. Pressure gone. Frankly, I love having the media doubt us now. We do better.

How do you figure the game against Iowa was ugly? Iowa was the hottest team in the conference. They had been blowing everyone out and we came back to beat them. We scored 70+ points in that game. Was the most pleasing game to the eyes? No but there is no way anyone should characterize that game as an ugly game.

Iowa was an ugly game? We beat one of the hottest teams in the country? Who just put up 121 on Northwestern?

Back before season started when people were saying this team would be better than last year’s, my question was always who would be the closer, the alpha. I don’t think with Ayo that the Illini lose this one.

I still feel good about this team and its prospects next week, but Trent has to step up and be that alpha. At this point, Curbelo is just a bit too much out of control to be that guy. He’ll be very important in getting the Illini to the point that we need a closer — but Trent needs to then step up.

And Kofi made 8 of those. The rest of the team made FOUR 2 point shots in the entire game.
That's an incredible stat. Need to reorganize the offense in a big hurry.

Just sunk in that this game was the last game for Trent and DWil
If Russia nuke's the Eastern and Western coastal regions of the USA next week, and Mexico and Canada both invade our N/S flanks, the NCAA will make damn sure there is at least a sixteen game tourney...and the Illini will be playing as a four seed. Trent and DW will both be there.
