He was good against a freshman. I stand by my opinion.I'll admit, I'm one of those people. Never been overly impressed by TJD but I was last night.

No denying the offense wasn’t good and the FT’s were god awful, but you can’t be giving up 80 points on 67% shooting. If you do you’ll find yourself finishing in the lower half of this conference consistently. To put it plainly the defense was awful. I am a fan of coach Underwood in almost all regards. The one exception to that is his ability to make in game adjustments. It was crystal clear that we needed to either double or chip help with a guard on TJD. If for no other reason than to make him uncomfortable in the post. He knew he was always one on one and he knew he could win that battle every time. Not a good recipe for the Illini. And THIS is why BU says TJD's 35 points didn't beat us. Who cares if he scores 35 and we win....and we win IF we don't miss the layups that are usually makes, and don't shoot HORRIBLE on FTs.
Amen. Began to wonder if there was some type of forcefield around our basket, particularly in the first half. Here we are a day later and I am still flummoxed by this game. Obviously we defended IU very poorly. But on offense... we had a LOT of good quality shots (including many layups) that just didn't go in. Maybe we still lose when allowing TJD to score 35, but the sheer volume of missed bunnies is mind boggling. The game was honestly a lot closer than it felt based on quality shots. We just missed so many of the easy and open ones.
I remember Kansas bowing out early in the Big 8 tourney and making hay in the NCAA. There is a point to being fresh. If you are not fresh the great ones figure out how to maximize their energy and still win.I think we were tired for the Loyola game as well. We had just played our hearts out in 3 back-to-back games to win the B1G tourney to validate our claim as conference champions over MI. The B1G regular season and tourney is such a meat grinder.
I'm very sorry about your Dad. I know it's tough.lost my dad today, Pru. he passed peacefully in his sleep. heading back to IL soon for the services and all. he was a good man.

I don't know. I have watched the game 3x now. I just think we ran into the proverbial buzz saw. We didn't bring our "A" game and the Hoosiers did.I'm not certain I want to blame team play on the loss as much as lack of coaching adjustments. TJD was literally playing against no opposition, why wouldn't he look great?
I don't like your friendI watched with this game on TV with a buddy who's a Hoosier fan. That's right I'm not very smart. He thought we would smoke IU by about 17. After starting out 4-0 he thought he was right. Buuutttttt, he was wrong, sadly.
He would replay certain plays several times (as he DVR'd the game) and would say: Watch. Where was Hawkins on D??? He wants NO part of TJD." This was whether he was guarding him or coming from the weak side.
If you have an extremely strong stomach and rewatched the game maybe you noticed this too.
CoHawk's overall play, along with the team's blown layups and bricked free throws (as mentioned by so many) were absolutely mind-boggling and maddening.
On to the next. Got to beat the Buckeyes.
