I'm still trying to figure out why I wasn't that upset that he left us to go to another school. I was seriously way more upset about losing JCL.

Also, If we had lost Trent I would of been way more upset even though he may not be as good of a player as Tilmon (Yet).

Can we pleeeeeease be classy about this Illini fans.
I'm gonna join you on this angle. We can ignore schadenfreude at Miznoz's expense when it involves something that can really eff up a kid's life and chances at future success.

I need to call in the judge: can I still laugh at Miznoz and wish them nothing but the worst while also hoping that this doesn't eff up Tilmon's life... just Miznoz's season?

I'm not a judge, but that's what I'm gonna do.

Minor in possession of alcohol is not going to screw up anyone's chances at future success. It is a ticket with a fine.

I mean, it's MIP, not really that big of a deal. I just find it difficult to joke and be flippant about alcohol, particularly after Darius Paul. Hope he was just being a bonehead and this isn't symptomatic of a real problem.

Of course. If we are all honest, probably 10% of us on here have had that same ticket at some point in time and another 85% of us were lucky to never get one.

Of course, you could argue that someone with NBA aspiration, especially when those aspirations are to be a one-and-done, that they might be able to put their partying on hold during their first summer so they can really focus on training and getting into the groove of the college game so they can showcase that during the season.

I agree that it shows a lack of judgement on his part, and that the lack of judgement may have implications for the rest of his time at Mizzou and any NBA potential. I personally don't see him lasting at Mizzou for more than 2-3 seasons, and I don't know if he will develop enough during that time to become an NBA prospect.

Dang, right out of the gates and he's working against himself. Even if you're likely not going to the NBA, being a scholarship athlete is a serious commitment and lifestyle. "Kids is all", I guess. We've definitely seen this song and dance at Illinois from time to time.

Tilmon was pulled over on Tiger Ave. just south of Hospital Drive at 1:42 a.m. Friday after failing to drive within a single lane. The officer detected the smell of intoxicants in the vehicle and put Tilmon through a sobriety test.
It was determined Tilmon was above the “zero tolerance” threshold for alcohol

Does that mean DUI? Confusing.

Hey I'm an Illini fan, but are you talking an Illini athelete like: luther head, Brian cardwell, rich mcbride, Kendrick Nunn, the kid that transferred from Seton Hall, Leron Black, the Paul kid. sorry but kids are kids and most of us screw up at one point or another. I'm just glad I didn't have to live in the limelight or the social media age as a kid. Let's not say JT wouldn't have been an Illini material because he was caught underage drinking.

It means that he had alcohol that registered. Since he is underage and Missouri has a zero tolerance law, he got a ticket and whatever else that Missouri mandates. Doesn't mean he got a DUI. Different alcohol related offenses.

Weimer said Tilmon performed and passed field sobriety tests, which eliminated a chance of a DUI charge. But a minor in possession of alcohol is a zero-tolerance violation. Weimer said he could not disclose if Tilmon admitted to officers that he had consumed alcohol.

"He had been drinking, and he was underage," Weimer said.

Possession of alcohol by a minor is a class D misdemeanor for a first-time offender.

So that's done. I'm sure he'll be just find in Sleezy CZ's hands. On to relevant things...

Possession is one thing, but driving above the 0 tolerance, sounds a bit more serious, legally speaking. (I'm not an attorney, just play one on TV. :D)

From my experience, I don't think you get arrested for simply an MIP.

I was kind of bummed JT left, but i recall someone talking about the tendency of players who flounder and delay decision making for college become troublesome and this seems to fit that description.

In the end, i'm glad it's not the O and B getting more negative attention regarding student athletes, or having a player that can potentially ruin a program looking to make a serious culture change.

Everyone needs to calm down. It's a MIP. Nothing is gonna happen to him except paying a fine and going to a university class about drinking.

This. A minor drinking is no big deal. A minor that cannot stop drinking is a big deal. JT likely falls in the former category, since most arrested on such charges do.

I follow some of the guys on Snapchat... and I'll just say what happened to Tilmon could easily happen to anyone on our team. Just because they are seen as celebrities and have unrealistic expectations doesn't mean that they aren't kids. They're going to drink, they're in college just like everyone else.

I thought it more interesting that JT was invited to the US under-19 camp, accepted, and then withdrew. Gotta wonder if there is a back-story there.

BTW, and apropos of absolutely nothing, the minor-in-possession charge sounds completely beatable based on the two articles I read. It will likely be plead out and he'll take a class to keep it off of his record, but it sure sounds winnable to me. I repped way too many drunk ISU students back in the 80s when I was with their Students Legal Services.
