Jeremiah Tilmon arrested

I thought it more interesting that JT was invited to the US under-19 camp, accepted, and then withdrew. Gotta wonder if there is a back-story there.
Maybe didn't feel like going to Egypt? I'd have second thoughts, too.

Just spitballing here.

My concern was JT was not an Illini type athlete and getting in this type of trouble in the summer shows he is a perfect fit for Missouri.

Martin will keep him eligible until the administration is forced to take action.

Does Missouri or Illinois have more player arrests over the last three years? Five years? Ten years? Without doing any research I'm guessing it's roughly the same and can almost guarantee Illinois does not have less.

I follow some of the guys on Snapchat... and I'll just say what happened to Tilmon could easily happen to anyone on our team. Just because they are seen as celebrities and have unrealistic expectations doesn't mean that they aren't kids. They're going to drink, they're in college just like everyone else.

Studies show that there is actually a higher rate of heavy drinking by athletes in college versus non-athletes. As a recent college athlete that graduated this year, I would agree with that study.

Do not care about JT… Not wearing orange and blue… Don't care… What I find interesting is that KMOX is reporting that the number one recruit in Illinois was arrested at the University Missouri for an alcohol related charge… Was Mark Smith with JT? Sarcasm intended

Let's not throw stones from glass houses. We've had a lot our own issues with player misconduct lately unfortunately.

Oh boy. I'm no lawyer, but this might be escalated to DUI. I've had a couple bonehead friends who were driving intoxicated, but were arrested for under age drinking and improper lane usage. The judge ultimately put 2 and 2 together and charged them with DUI.

Doubt this turns into a DUI. Local news report here in central Missouri said Tilmon was given, and passed, a field sobriety test. Because he had alcohol on his breath he was arrested under the zero tolerance law for underage persons.

The legal limit for under 21 is 0.00000, so how is this not a DUI?

It may not. It's just that he's underage and the whole field sobriety/.08 thing could go out the window. Not saying this will be the case, but a judge who strongly looks down on this kinda thing may escalate the charge. Just basing this off what I've seen happen with some folks in similar situations.

This. Lol. How do you cite somebody for underage drinking while driving a vehicle under zero tolerance but not give them a dui? That makes no sense.

Two different things. DUI charges involve tolerance limits. In this case, much will be determined by whether an instrument was used, and what where the readings. Unless there were readings, and they were close to the DUI limits, Tilmon will likely avoid escalation to DUI. If it was just a physical field sobriety test (e.g., walking straight line, etc.), there will be no charges. He will get a fine and be prescribed to a program.

Random Thoughts

So who was the kid who violated team rules--which as I recall was drinking--and was put on the plane home from Europe?

It will be interesting to see how Martin handles this.

Everything said, when you're under the microscope it's best to be on your best behavior and not even "present the appearance of..." Shouldn't someone be giving a lecture on how to behave? My wife is a professor in teacher education and she makes sure that her students know that if you have a single blemish on your record, you won't get that first teaching job in Pennsylvania.

And regarding the comment about "we all did it." First, see above. and Second, how many of us were driving and so intoxicated that we couldn't stay within the lane? Yeah, I remember back in the day guys driving while totally blotto, but times have changed.

Will this result in campus protests? Ah, no one is on campus right now.

BTW, how does one spend the night driving the porcelain bus and then go out and do it again? After a while, it's more fun to watch freshmen puking on their shoes. Disgusting, but better than puking on your own shoes.

Darius Paul, but that is not only what he did.

Way different than the Paul situation. He was out of control and damaging property. Not to mention he was on his 3rd or 4th chance at that point.

Hey I'm an Illini fan, but are you talking an Illini athelete like: luther head, Brian cardwell, rich mcbride, Kendrick Nunn, the kid that transferred from Seton Hall, Leron Black, the Paul kid. sorry but kids are kids and most of us screw up at one point or another. I'm just glad I didn't have to live in the limelight or the social media age as a kid. Let's not say JT wouldn't have been an Illini material because he was caught underage drinking.

What he said^^^^

I'm just glad he's not Illinois problem now.

Sucks for him, but sounds like charges are pretty minor luckily for JT

This is really a non-issue. JT just happened to be caught. I can guarantee that many of our athletes are engaging in similar behavior. My only hope is that none of these players will make the mistake of getting behind the wheel.
