Jimmy Collins passes away
Met Jimmy at the FF here in 1989. Gracious man.
Aw man....so sad to hear this. Without him the 80's don't belong to the Illini

I'm a lifelong Illini fan in no small part because of Coach Collins and his teams. Can't believe we've lost him and Lou Henson in such a short amount of time. 2020 is the worst.

RIP Coach Collins. Terrible injustice that he was torpedoed by Satan, Digger & the NCAA.
Very sad. Did great things for the school. I had the pleasure of going to school with his wife. Very classy lady.
JImmy Collins was a big part of the Illini success in the 80's.

Meet Coach Collins and Coach Combes at the old Chancellor Inn bar at the IHSA state boys basketball tourney....several coaches sitting around having a couple drinks and they came over and joined us....talked basketball for a couple hours....good guys, thanks for your contribution to Illini basketball....RIP Coach Collins

The bell tolls for all of us, but certainly sad to see another Illini coaching icon pass away.
Combes or Coomes? (Harry) Combes died in 1977 and Jimmy didn't come to Illinois until 1983. Mark Coomes coached with Jimmy at both Illinois and UIC.
