Maybe not directly, but more events using the facility is going to lower the money needed for the facility by athletic events.

I think Whitman is out ahead of the curve. He's essentially made an investment. Time will tell if he made a good one. I suspect he has, but it's too early to know.

Living in Iowa City, I have always wondered what type of events/shows Carver and Kinnick could bring into the area and the money that could generate.

It's not a comprehensive list (I saw Tom Petty at The Assembly Hall in 1985 I think, and it's not listed here) but you can search shows by venue on this site:

Interesting site but they also seem to be missing Marshall Tucker Band from 1976 (or maybe it was 1977 -- I'm a little bit foggy about some dates from those years).

Saw a question posted a couple days ago re: The Marshall Tucker Band. They played there in late-winter 1980, with Firefall opening. GREAT concert, lasted about 4 hours total. MTB wanted to continue playing (for their encore they brought the guys from Firefall out and jammed on lengthy blues standards, which added a good hour or more to their set). Assembly Hall personnel finally started flashing the stadium and stage lights telling them, in effect, to "wrap it up boys." I remember this because Tommy Caldwell, bassist for MTB, was killed in a Jeep accident less than a month after that show.
