Also, the 3 pt line moved back from 19' 9" to 20' 9" in 2008, and then to the international distance of 21' 1 3/4" in the 19-20 season. That makes it even more insane.
And a lot of his shots have been well beyond that too, getting into Steph Curry range (30-40 ft). I wonder if there's any readily way to see his percentage from beyond the NBA arc? From 30+ feet? I'm sure some NBA scouts have calculated it, but not sure if there's any publicly available info on that.

I mean you’re talking about the greatest shooter of all time both catch and shoot and off the dribble with maybe the quickest release of all time. I watched Steph hit 98-100 corner 3s one time.
I don't think Keaton's 3pt is at Steph level yet. Maybe close to K Thompson. But his driving/passing games are arguably better. It pains me to say he is more like a James Harden who doesn't jump into people.

Keaton does a whole lot of looking for fouls. On shots and drives. Its a good thing. Also, I think its a bit ridiculous to compare him to Klay Thompson and say he isn't quite at the level of the greatest shooter of all time YET. Thats some pie in the sky type analysis. I get Wagler has been special, but let's keep things in perspective as well. This is a very deep draft at the top. He could crack top 5 just as much as he drops out of the top 12. Teams may just see a better fit with someone else. Its also interesting to see how teams adjust now that he is the clear cut #1 overall option. The game against MSU should be a great example.

Competition
- Braden Smith -- 15 ppg 4 rbg 9 apg - getting exposed as Purdue loses
- Jeremy Fears -- 15 ppg 2 rbg 9 apg - no outside shoot, MSU slipping out of B10 race
- Yaxel Lendeborg - 15 ppg 7 rbg 3 apg - if Michigan is B10 champs he will get the votes

- Keaton 18 ppg 4 rbg 4 apg - coming off 47 pt @ Purdue and 28 pt @ Nebraska wins. Keep winning head to head and anything is possible. Even first team AA.

Probably best NBA prospect of the 4 so he will continue to get great press.

The game at MSU this weekend will have a significant bearing on who wins B10 POY. If the Illini win that one, and Wagler's stat line is better than that of Fears, Keaton will further strengthen his claim to the award. In my opinion, he has an edge now over Braden Smith and Lendeborg, and if the Illini proceed to win the League title Keaton should be a lock. You can't help but admire his skills, maturity, and outsized contribution to what is the greatest Illini team since Bruce took us to the Natty title game.

To add to how ridiculous he's been this year, currently he is shooting 43.8% from 3 with over 100 attempts. That would rank him as the most accurate single season volume (>100 attempts) shooter from 3 who has put on an Illini uniform in the past 20 years. He's basically shooting it at 2005 Dee Brown level (43.4%)!

Since 2000 Single Season 3pt% Leaders (>100 attempts):
1. 2006 Jamar Smith 48.2%
2. 2003 Sean Harrington 44.4%
3. 2026 Keaton Wagler 43.8%
4. 2015 Rayvonte Rice 43.6%
5. 2005 Dee Brown 43.4%

Just wild.
How is Luther Head not on this? He made over 100 3's in the 2005 season...he must not have been as accurate as I recall.

Luther was very accurate. Shot 41.0%. We've had a decent number in the 40-42% shooting range. 43% is where you start getting into really rare air. And then there's Jamar Smith... If he could've just stayed sober. That's still my biggest Illini What if. Probably always will be.

During this stretch of Waglermania I heard or read (can't remember which) that he was making around 50% of his 25+ foot 3's
