Congrats to Kofi!! 🧡💙. Absolute legend at Illinois.

As far as how good we'll be next year, I'm optimistic. We're not top 15 anymore, but it will be exciting to see lots of newer guys getting playtime. I could see us being like 20/21 Purdue: young talented team who stays in the top half of the B1G and makes it into the tourney.

Obviously we can't replace kofi, but Brad has shown he's able to find great fits to backfill turnover.

It kind of is but I am intrigued in what Dainja can do in terms of opening up the driving lanes as we will have more slashers.
Brad changed his philosophy when Kofi got here. If you look at Brad’s teams previous, the 5 moves more freely and can bring the opposing 5 with him. With Kofi, we were a Kofi option 1. In some ways that was a hinderance as good teams knew where to defend. Now we will have the luxury to drive without a clogged lane. Dain will be a more active 5 with more of a high pick and roll or high pick and pop. Thanks Kofi for three great years. You will be in the rafters one day. Thanks to Trent, Ayo and Kofi for being the leaders who took us back to the top of the conference and back to being elite.

I must confess I probably sometimes took Kofi for granted. Which, I know, is silly considering his contributions here. I can understand him wanting to move on, and wish him nothing but the best.

I agree with others though, that I'm glad it was this year and not last year. I imagine we may have some growing pains at the beginning of next season, but I feel okay with things. Let's get this day rolling!

Absolutely we will have growing pains. Nobody on our roster will have ever played together.

That said I count eight 4* players and likely another transfer or two coming in. It's been a long time since we've had this much highly rated talent. They will Gel and it will be fun!

Kofi thank you for the wonderful ride. Thank you for all you have done for UI Basketballs return to greatness. You will be forever remembered and revered.

I remember being at SFC for Kofi's first game as an Illini against Nicholls State. Last game I went to with my Dad. For those who don't remember they took us to OT where we squeaked out a win.

Even with the struggles that night everyone in that building knew we were in for something special with Kofi. Everyone was in awe of how big he really was. These past 3 years have flown by. Gonna miss the big fella. End of an era indeed.

Sorry to see Kofi go. The main guys who helped reset the program are gone. However, the talent currently on the roster is capable of a strong showing in next year's March madness.

Good luck Kofi. If he truly wants to play in the League this is the right decision - focus 24/7 on getting better at basketball without other distractions or limitations. He will probably make less $ initially but if he does this right it will pay off in the end

OK - time for a change. Our coaching staff radically changed our defense (for the better) after Year 1 of the Underwood era. Now they need to do the same to the offense. No more dump it down and rely on the big guy to score (or occasionally pass out). I expect a more dynamic, fast paced, and balanced offensive approach that should be harder for opponents to scheme against. Fortunately, we appear to have the roster to do it.

Good luck Kofi - it was a great run, but it is probably the right time for both he and the team to move forward.

I posted that literally within a couple minutes of the announcement. He probably announced it while I was typing that post but before I clicked "Post reply."
