Kofi will likely make more NIL $ if he comes back to Illinois after doubling down that he's going to leave. Like how Ayo became a legend for "running it back." It is a brilliant business move by the big guy and if he stays or if he goes I wish him the best and I'm sure BU will put a fun product on the court for us fans either way.
Kofi could make bank as the Waffle House spokesman.

Seems like it's a free market for services now days, hoping we get a hometown discount or take care of business...Curbelo your table is ready....and BU please get us Garcia also.

Which one of you betters is going to offer their beach house to Kofi! Kofi beach house rentals inc.

Hire Kofi as player assistant coach. (yes, I know this will not fly)

INfluence = legalized Slush Fund

Looking at it typed, seems hoosieresque. (Where is the barf emoji?)

INIfluence?

College basketball is dying. The things about the nba that the common fan hate are now going to become norm in college. But, the players aren’t as talented.
I don't watch or like the NBA, but college bball is going to plummet beneath it. I have teams that I like in most sports, but I can't truly care about or root for any team without feeling connected to the players - like where their journey has taken them and how they've grown into the team.

Even the most loyal of college players only get a few years, so the NBA has cbb beat there. Much like when baseball transitioned to rosters of journeymen from franchise vets, I'll probably end up rooting for bench guys and "role players" that stick around. I want the kids to get what they deserve, but it will be impossible to ignore the increasing disparity in competition. Amateurism has been a dirty lie for a long time, but at least we could pretend it was fair on the court.

I do not look forward to hearing the talking heads explain the NIL change and then immediately falling into routine and pretending like nothing's changed. With two years, we'll be hearing about how great Oregon basketball is and how far [insert coach here] has brought them. Gross.

I doubt he ends up at Kentucky. Really weird situation to have both him and Oscar Tshiebwe. But then again, I never thought i'd see him transfer

I'm still a Kofi fan though. Him leaving I wouldn't say "tarnishes" his legacy. He's a legend. I hope he's jersey gets put in the rafters still ngl.
I may be bias, but if the NBA is not an option this year, Illinois is the most logical place to be for Kofi. You know the offense features you, you have one of the best PGs in college who has a year learning when, where and how you like to be fed, and if you were the number two option before, you are number one now.

But if he came back to college and HAD to go to another school, I would like to see him go to Georgetown. His game reminds me so much of Ewing’s I think that is one scenario where he would grow the most as a player. I’m not even getting into the Caribbean connection.

Okay, I’ll bite … any insiders hearing anything about Kofi? I’m the type to try to get my hopes up, so I’ll welcome any excuses to do so!
Sounds like discussions have gone very well. Talks will continue next week. NIL and skill development, re how to get him to NBA, will loom large.

Anything can happen... I didn't expect this but you can't be suprised by anything anymore.

I assume he's going to Kentucky if
he doesn't stay in the draft

We've taken a ton of punches this offseason. I am far from an insider, but if he actually was going to come back to Illinois, he wouldn't be in the transfer portal. Guys who go in the transfer portal don't come back. Call it pessimistic/realistic whatever. It will hurt to see him in another college uniform.
This might not be true in this case. Must be in the transfer portal to talk to other teams, so this is necessary to just explore your options under the new NIL rules.

Antigua literally talked to Kofi today about going back to Illinois lol
If Kofi wanted Antigua's input, which is not unreasonable to believe, he had to enter the portal to talk to him. Otherwise OA gets in trouble. Another reason not to jump to conclusions.

I’m interested where that line falls for ncaa tampering. You know they are close on a personal level and just talking to someone you are close to, and getting their input on your big life decisions, is not weird or unreasonable.
OA is imploring Kofi to come back to U of I (if he stays in college) but not sure it will be enough. We’ll find out soon enough.

Orlando has not stopped talking to Kofi. Even after Orlando went to UK.
Then that about guarantees that Kofi will not go to KY. Otherwise, I would believe that there could be tampering allegations. But maybe BU and JW have given the OK.

I have no inside look into the situation, but I could honestly see Orlando encouraging Kofi to stay. He has Oscar so a big isn't a major need for them. This is also a great opportunity for him to tell Brad, "hey I scratched your back". Remember: Orlando is praised for his relationship building. Part of good relationships is maintaining them. Kofi going to Kentucky would probably rub Brad the wrong way

When you leave a program on good terms like Orlando has (per media, insiders, etc) part of your definitely still roots for the program and the kids you recruited there.

This has been said a few times here and I'm curious why this seems to be the case. Is it that OA is worried it'll look like tampering if Kofi goes elsewhere? Or is it the leverage that Brad and Josh supposedly have over him? Both?

It’s mostly due to BU and OA being on very good terms, and OA knows what the optics will look like if Kofi decides to head to Kentucky.

To me this begs the question of whether UK/Cal is interested. Even if Kofi wants to go to UK, UK would still have to want to take him. Would Cal override his new top assistant and bring in a kid the assistant is specifically advocating to stay out. Or are there some winks happening during all of this imploring to go back to UI?

C’mom man. Quite literally every school in the country would take Kofi yesterday. As far as the rest of your post-no winks are happening. OA genuinely wants Kofi back in C-U.
