College basketball is dying. The things about the nba that the common fan hate are now going to become norm in college. But, the players aren’t as talented.
I don't watch or like the NBA, but college bball is going to plummet beneath it. I have teams that I like in most sports, but I can't truly care about or root for any team without feeling connected to the players - like where their journey has taken them and how they've grown into the team.
Even the most loyal of college players only get a few years, so the NBA has cbb beat there. Much like when baseball transitioned to rosters of journeymen from franchise vets, I'll probably end up rooting for bench guys and "role players" that stick around. I want the kids to get what they deserve, but it will be impossible to ignore the increasing disparity in competition. Amateurism has been a dirty lie for a long time, but at least we could pretend it was fair on the court.
I do not look forward to hearing the talking heads explain the NIL change and then immediately falling into routine and pretending like nothing's changed. With two years, we'll be hearing about how great Oregon basketball is and how far [insert coach here] has brought them. Gross.
