I would imagine the players are more overwhelmed with all this activity than we are and I'm exhausted trying to figure everything out.......

I try to stay optimistic as a rule, but Kofi is gone IMHO unless I hear otherwise from him. Kudos to Kofi for being honest and frank with that ESPN reporter.

His phone has to be blowing up right now. There is not a team in the country that wouldn't take him, and some of these coaches will be making wild promises about how he'll be used on offense or how they'll improve his draft stock that they won't end up keeping... hey Kofi, we'll even let you bring up the ball sometimes on offense!

If his two-year relationship with Underwood, Alexander, Whitman, and all his returning teammates is not enough to keep him from taking visits to other schools... well, I just think he's Kentucky-bound, or someone else is gonna dazzle him with promises of playing on the perimeter or crazy NIL money.

Garcia commitment would soften the blow a bit. If Kofi comes back to ILLINOIS, sign me up for ten t-shirts.
Stupid question I guess, but is selling T-shirts part of the NIL?

Heh.

In all seriousness, BU has earned, at a minimum, the benefit of the doubt given how he's resurrected our program from the grave. But how we recover from or otherwise power through this trying time where all three ACs leave at once and potentially our two best players to boot will be telling. If we come out of this without any major downturn, he'll be practically deified by some. If we fall on our face, there will be a lot of "I told you so" people coming out of the woodwork.

Either way, get ready for some thoughtful, constructive, measured debate.
There will always be the “nay sayers”and “I told you so” clowns.
Mark me down 100% that BU will navigate the storm masterfully. As long as BU is our HC, Illini basketball is relevant again.
Sure Kofi returning makes us better. However, Kofi going anywhere else makes us no worse than we are today…which is very solid. Add Garcia and we are top 10 - without Kofi.
I want Kofi back as much as the rest of Illini Nation….but regardless, we have a HC that has proven over and over again he is top notch and the results and roster agree with that sentiment.

I don't care if Kofi stays or goes. I'll tip my cap and wish him well either way

He committed to the Illini right after an ugly upset loss, because he knew he could make a difference for the Illini and show his ability.
He also busted his !!! to get in shape and learn the game while at Illinois.
He also helped our Illini become relevant again in the B10 & NCAA.

If Kofi sees an opportunity to grow himself, I think he has good instincts and I wish him well. If he looks around and stays, then he'll come back and make us proud. The Illini will be OK either way.
Ditto. Particularly if we land Garcia, I'm ready to bid Kofi farewell. I want Kofi only if he really wants to be here -- and play for BU.

Agreed that we are going to look good with or without him if we land Garcia. Like you said, we will be better with Kofi, so it makes logical sense to want him back. There's also the sentimental side that would be really hard to watch a man who is such a good ambassador for the program and a once in a generation type talent put on another college uniform.

Emotionally it would be kind of like when Pujols left the Cardinals, except that in that scenario the Cardinals were better off without him.

Players should be paid. But it’s hard for anyone not to see that the Legacy Elitist programs will benefit most from this in having even greater pull with the top young talented names with their much greater media footprint than anyone else ever gets.
Count me as one who doesn't see if that way. I think the dollars that people imagine are probably overstated. If Blue bloods like KU and UK were already slipping money, this might serve to level the playing field.

I think the programs that benefit the most are those located in cities that don't have one of three major pro leagues. The bigger that city the better. I think Ohio State is going to absolutely clean up and their players will lead the nation. I think Louisville is probably well positioned. Gainesville maybe?

Stupid barstool take. Kofi fits on any roster in the country.

People forget how stacked Kentucky teams of the past were.
Objectively, I think coming back to UI makes the most sense for him. But if he goes somewhere else, he should consider Georgetown WAY before UK or any blue blood.

The case for UI:
1. He feasted as the second option and now the first option is gone.
2. We have gone out of our way to get high percentage perimeter shooters.
3. We have one of the best PGs in the country who spent one year learning how, when and where to feed him
4. If he goes somewhere else and doesn’t quite fit, that would devastate his future. Whether it is the system, complimentary players or competition at center canibalizing time, it is a huge risk to go somewhere else. And if you were second team All American last year, there is not much upside.

Case for Georgetown:
Learn from Ewing. Kofi has such a similar game with those power moves, defense and soft hands. But if he can pick up a few more nuances from him… like Ewing’s footwork, that would help his game.

Kofi went on Instagram live with Liddell today. Remember the rumors of Liddell being interested in coming here if Kofi stayed… but I wonder if Kofi has any interest in Columbus

That would be….unbearable. They do need a center, but with Washington gone he’s better off here on the court. Off the court, probably Columbus.

Well your guess and what I know actually happened don’t line up. But go ahead and think what you want!

You obviously are very plugged in but I simply cannot reconcile the fact that Kofi publicly stated he's considering UK if OA told him he can't come.

How does that make any sense? If OA said something along the lines of "I think you should consider going back to Illinois" then that is basically an empty statement.

While I agree with you that Ewing likely can help his game, the Ewing game is not today's game and I am not seeing how he is developing players. And GU has Wahab, who plays in Kofi's spot and in a similar fashion, but not like Kofi. Saw little growth in his game from year 1 to 2 at GU. And overall, Ewing has struggled at Georgetown (though the Big East tournamnet run was big). They have not been getting better, overall.

I wish Kofi well. Not sure the best place for him to go to develop the game the NBA folks are telling him he needs to develop. Want him to come back. Sounds as if he want OA.

Yes, Kofi fits on any roster. He is coming back to college for a reason. Where is best for Kofi based on his reasoning? I just don;t know...
