I think many just forget, or choose to ignore, that Kofi has only been playing for ~5 years. He doesn't need a big man coach....he just needs to keep learning basketball instincts.

I feel like everyone keeps suggesting Cal never talked to Kofi so that means they didn’t want him. Couldn’t it also be that Kofi never wanted to leave? Also - wouldn’t OA probably be the lead guy on him anyway? I fail to see how not talking to Cal means UK didn’t want him. Maybe it’s him that didn’t actually want UK that badly. Or, as has been said before, UK was in the running because of OA not because of Cal, so he talked to OA only. Just seems like they are trying to turn one piece of information into a huge narrative.

A lot of big men don't have a mid range but still have a place in the NBA. I doubt the feedback was focused primarily on his shot. The question is defense, in particular can he survive on a switch. That is the biggest question, along with whether he make the simple kick out when double-teamed. Adding a mid range would definitely be a nice addition for him, I just don't think it's the swing skill for whether or not he'll get drafted.

I think the feedback is never going to be one dimensional. His weaknesses are his shot outside the paint and his lateral quickness. The NBA scouts are not going to say “do X a s you get drafted” - they assess his game and provide feedback. He then needs to decide which weakness he can address best in order to fit in the nba. There’s not one single profile for an nba 7 footer. There are some successful nba bigs who were always a liability on pick and rolls (see Carlos boozer) and others that have little to no range (see joakim Noah). There are many avenues - he could raise his stock by improving his shot. He could raise it by improving his lateral quickness. He could do both. There’s many ways he can improve his dysfunction stock. He doesn’t have to suddenly become an exclusively high post player, he more has to make enough shots that other teams have to respect it and play him tight. At all levels that elevates the game of a big man. Same with passing - it’s not about passing for passings sake. It’s about seeing double teams and knowing where the open man is. Not being s black hole. Nba scouts won’t sit there and say “well he shot 80% of his shots in the paint, we can’t have that”, they look for potential to grow and ability to do what is needed to elevate his game even higher

Actually for all the hype Kofi brought to portal since 7 July... Only three schools were mentioned by the media with LSU being one of the three and FSU now coming out of right field.

while there may always be a roster spot on an NBA team for a guy like Shaq, the days of the back to the basket , dunk or 5 ft layup type shot only , type center are certainly out of favor right now. but things go in cycles, and can easily return.
but the 3pt shot has CHANGED THE GAME, thats for sure

Here's a simple view of our potential 2021-22 roster as of this Friday night, assuming we get good news. YEAR assumes that every player maximizes his eligibility (taking advantage of the one-time Covid rules). I consider this really nice class balance. Kofi & Curbelo will leave early, and some of the FR won't ultimately make the cut.

I would say a tad light on sophomores, but with the transfer portal, safe to say we can expect quite a few transfers next year so should get back to a normal balance.
Plus obviously you have two classes at the freshman level because the incoming class doesn’t gain that extra year. Honestly, with transfer portal as crazy as it is, we can expect to see a lot more freshman heavy rosters moving forward.
Why is everyone but our incoming freshmen classed a year behind?

Personally I am not counting any chickens before they hatch. I am not putting the cart before the horse. And I am not thinking about the upcoming season until I hear something concrete from Kofi. He will forever be the man in the state of Illinois if he comes back and I am sure he is wise enough to see all the benefits that will bring.
