This guy was always my favorite college football announcer. Just had the voice for it. RIP

I remember in the eighties, he was commentator for an Illinois vs. Iowa game: He said the fans in the Quad Cities must be going crazy today, that is the hot bed of the Illinois - Iowa rivalry.

As a Quad City native, I will always remember that, and the way he said it. He was my favorite college football announcer of all time.

Some notes: USC was ranked #2 in the country when we beat them. Marinovich was their bionic QB whose dad had him on a special diet, special training etc. Jeff George said he ate a lot of McDonald’s in contrast. This was also supposed to be the Glasnost Bowl played in Russia. Finally, Daren Boyer was a pretty decent back who proved hard to tackle in this game. Keith Jackson referred to him as ‘a sack of saws’.
