Leron Black suspended first 6 games next year

Leron Black has been reinstated to the team and will serve a six-game suspension to open the 2016-17 season

I like Groce's verbiage. The length of suspension falls right about in line with what I was expecting, maybe a bit lighter than I thought.

Seems like a very light punishment, especially given what people were expecting. I think that bodes well for Nunn being back on the team. Tate case is a whole different situation.

Not much basketball punishment at all in my opinion. I know many will disagree with me because they're happy to have his production back for next year, but four games (excluding the exhibitions) against cupcakes is barely a slap on the wrist, (again) in my opinion. Double this and we're getting closer to what I thought would be acceptable for me.

I understand the reasoning for going low with the game total though. Groce is in all-out desperation mode next season to keep his job. No idea what to make of the Nunn and Tate situations, but at least we're 33 percent done with the court cases so far.

Go check out Whitman's response when asked about the situations. It's posted in the tate thread. Pretty much sounded like anything other than an innocent verdict was going to see them removed from the team. At least that's how I interpreted it.

Wow, I'm the wrong guy to ask (just ask Stevegarbs :) ), but I'm going to double down and say, "no" it wasn't meant as sarcasm.

I just thought it was a sure thing that he would use his redshirt on last season.

$200 fine seems terribly low considering what people get on unofficial.:)

I get the feeling Tate has a better chance at returning than Nunn, but I'm only going on what's been said about Tate and witnesses. It's been very quiet on Nunn and that seems to indicate there might be a reason. Pure speculation.

I hope Black can take advantage of this opportunity.

I was thinking it would be closer to 8 but honestly there isn't a huge difference. I am just happy it wasn't any less than 6.

Currently I am thinking we get either Tate or neither back but just glad to have Black back. Honestly, he has a lot of potential and glad to see him back on the team. Hopefully it lights a fire under him but also makes him realize he has to change his attitude on the court from being as dirty because after this the media is going to kill him the next time he gets a flagrant for a dirty play.

I'm just glad this piece of it has been settled. I hope LB learns from this and finishes out his career with the O&B squeaky clean.

We are playing in the preseason NIT.

Yes, he'll get a medical RS.

Last year, we played one exhibition game and then five others before playing UAB and Iowa State in that thanksgiving tourney. Thus, I am assuming that Groce will similarly manage the schedule this year so we won't have to play any of our better non/conference opponents without Black. If he can control his on-court temper, I am expecting big things from Black this year.

Once a decision has been made to reinstate him, he needs to return to the team. The state and the team I feel handled the situation fairly and reasonably. Not going to split hairs of 2-8 games. The bottom line is that he needs to be a model citizen or he is gone.

Feel pretty good about Mav at Center and Black at PF even if Thorne doesn't return. Finke playing alongside as a WF and back-up PF/C will work. Would like to get Nunn back to solidfy the back court and provide depth but not sure that is going to happen.
