Are Mike Ditka, Dick Butkus and Mike White available for Head Coach and Assistant Coaches? None of them would take any garbage from lack of effort.

The Lovie Smith Era, started with such high hopes and then it only got worse. We need any offensive guy who will actually recruit and, I don't know, maybe communicate with Illinois high school coaches?
This season's "recruiting" had to of been the death blow.

I just hope this quells any future discussions of "Change needs to happen but I don't think Whitman's going to do anything." Of course hopefully we don't have to have that discussion for a long time.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
The new coach will be the 10th since I started watching Illini football in the 1980s.

Amazing.

Personnel is policy, as they say. JW is the man to do his thing properly. Walking in the door when Cubit had just been installed as HC and it was already March was unfortunate timing to say the least. I have faith in him this time.

Not that it matters, but I wonder when Whitman came to this conclusion. Was it after the Iowa game, or did he have an inkling that this would be necessary after the first three games.

Two things about Whitman.

One, he's extremely smart. He graduated at the top of his class of U of I law. All along he saw what we all saw even if he couldn't come out and say so.

Two, he's an institutionalist and very conscious of image and perception. He would not risk a messy, drawn-out, chicken-with-head-cut-off Thomas-style coaching search during a pandemic year. I would almost guarantee he already has his man locked into place.

I would be pleasantly surprised if he already has his guy. I hope you are right.

I agree with this. Even with Lovie being a miss, I've always found comfort that Josh is leading the department.
