Not surprised at all on Mason. Most agree that point guard play is the most important factor at the college level (see the last several years of Illinois basketball) and Mason was the PG on the most improved team in the country record wise. Not the B1G, the country. Yes they have some nice pieces around him but he's been lights out especially in the conference.
Beat writers had Minnesota as pre-season #11 and they finished #4 in B1G, so yes a surprisingly nice effort by Pitino.
